The NHL’s Wednesday night slate has dwindled to 2 games as teams are traveling and get an extra day’s rest built into the round 1 schedule. The Panthers visit the Bruins and the Kraken visit the Avalanche on a night Boston looks to clinch and one of Seattle or Colorado get a game closer to advancing. These playoffs have brought a lot of jam thus far. There is no reason to think even with a small slate that Wednesday will be any different.

Boston Bruins -1.5 (+110) vs Florida Panthers

After a couple home games in which the Bruins did not play well but still got a win, they went on the road and flat out took care of business. Boston outscored Florida on their home ice 10-5. They have covered -1.5 in all 3 wins despite being banged up. As it was widely considered entering the series, the Panthers just can’t hang. That’s not an indictment on the Panthers. There might only be a couple of teams in the league that can hang with this Bruins team which we’ll likely find out for sure in the following weeks. The Panthers’ loss of Aaron Ekblad has hindered Florida more than the losses of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci has impacted Boston. Even with Ekblad probable, Bergeron questionable, and Krejci ruled out Wednesday, Boston’s depth should handle Florida yet again.

Returning to home ice with an opportunity to clinch will put a pep in the Bruins’ step. They know they didn’t play very well in games 1 and 2 at T.D. Garden and want to change that. Taylor Hall looks like his former MVP self, Tyler Bertuzzi and Jake DeBrusk are providing great depth production, and Charlie McAvoy and Dmitry Orlov completely control the game from the defensive side of the puck while still pushing pace offensively. All of that does not even include the names Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. This team is too good and too deep as evident by their historic season and strong play thus far. The Bruins will be anxious to put the final nail in the Panthers’ coffin and not prolong this series.

Seattle Kraken win and over 5.5 (+360)

The Kraken have already exceeded the expectations of several pundits and fans in the hockey world. If you would have told Seattle fans they would be going back to Colorado tied at 2 with one of the wins coming in Colorado, they would probably take that. Sure, they are a wildcard team and recent expansion team, but they are not a fluke. Seattle has multiple Stanley Cup winners on their roster and very balanced scoring. They have shown resiliency multiple times now in this series, and now face an Avalanche team that will be without Cale Makar in game 5 due to a 1-game suspension. Jared McCann was on the other side of the hit that got Makar suspended, and McCann is questionable. He would be a glaring omission as well. But the Avalanche can’t shake the Kraken and will be without one of the best players in the NHL.

The Kraken were one of the best offensive teams in the NHL all season long. They finished ranked 4th in the league in scoring overall and comfortably finished atop the league in goals scored 5 on 5. Their goal prevention was middle of the pack at 15th in the NHL which against a team with multiple superstars could be vulnerable. Between Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen on the Avalanche and the balanced scoring attack of the Kraken, there is plenty of potential for offensive production. These teams are learning each other’s tendencies, and are becoming more and more acquainted. The offensive talent, need for goals, and familiarity look good for the over.
