Hurricanes -1.5 (+164)

Rangers -1.5 (+210)

Parlay odds: +718

Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+164) over Seattle Kraken

You would be hard-pressed to find a better hockey team right now than the Carolina Hurricanes. Coming into tonight’s game against the Seattle Kraken they are 14-2-1 and on top of the Metropolitan Division. In addition to that mark, they have been one of the best road teams this season, going 8-1-1. We should see Frederick Andersen between the pipes which gives the Hurricanes a big edge. Andersen holds a GAA of 1.88 which is the 4th-lowest rate in the NHL.

Things have not gone quite as expected for the Kraken. Their goaltending has been much below average and the offense is scoring 2.89 goals per game. That average is not terrible but playing a team like Carolina requires more. Seattle has been below average on home ice as well, going 4-6-0 and losing to teams such as Vancouver, Chicago, and Buffalo. The Hurricanes are the cream of the crop and the margin for error for the Kraken will be extremely low tonight. Look for the ‘Canes to win this game by multiple goals.

New York Rangers -1.5 (+210) over New York Islanders

The New York Islanders are still looking for their first win at their brand new home. The Islanders are currently 0-2-0 at UBS Arena, and they have been outscored 8-2 — including being shut out on Sunday. To make matters worse, COVID is going around the Islanders and there could be as many as 7 players not available for Wednesday’s game — including captain and first-line center Anders Lee. This is already on top of missing top defenseman Ryan Pulock and second-line center Brock Nelson.

The Islanders like to play a defense-first style of hockey, and so far that hasn’t been too successful. Even though they rank 10th in the league in goals allowed, they have also played the fewest number of games. Look at the per game statistics; the Isles drop to 19th in goals allowed per game at 3.07. The pressure they allow defensively is even worse, ranking 24th in expected goals against per 60 minutes. The Islanders’ offense doesn’t help with this lack of defense, as they rank 31st in goals per game at 2.07. The Rangers, who have won 5 of their last 6 games, will simply need to control the game against an Islanders team that will have backup and minor-league players on the active roster. The Rangers should be able to secure a big win.
