NHL Wednesday mega parlay (+1526 odds): Flyers look to end Oilers' win streak

Philadelphia Flyers center Claude Giroux and goaltender Carter Hart (79) celebrate the Flyers' 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils

Wednesday night gives us a smaller slate of 5 NHL games. That doesn’t mean we can’t put together a parlay for a potentially large payout. Along with this article breaking down that parlay, be sure to check out all of our full game previews for each matchup tonight. You can also follow Pickswise on Twitter for daily betting content throughout the season.

This 3-leg parlay is paying out north of 15/1 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Maple Leafs -1.5 (+122)

Flyers ML (+158)

Stars -1.5 (+184)

Parlay odds: +1526

Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (+122) over Chicago Blackhawks

Both of these teams are spiraling a bit. The Maple Leafs have lost 4 straight games, scoring only 6 goals during that time frame while allowing 18. Their last 2 losses, to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday and Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, weren’t even close as they lost 7-1 and 4-1 respectively. On the other side, the Blackhawks are an absolute mess.  They are 0-5-1, their President just resigned, they rank 27th in the league in goals per game and 2ndworst in goals allowed per game.

The difference between these teams comes on the offensive side. Toronto has a more balanced, consistent attack than Chicago, and stars Auston Matthews and John Tavares can have big nights at any moment.  They lead the 4th-best offense in the league with an expected goals for per 60 at 5-on-5 at 2.97. Compare that with the Blackhawks, who are 30th in that same category at 1.81.  Look for Toronto’s offense to score enough to win by multiple goals.

Philadelphia Flyers ML (+158) over Edmonton Oilers

The Flyers come into this one playing their first game on the road this season. Carter Hart is already confirmed in goal and he’s been light years better than last season, holding down a .914 save percentage. The unit in front of him has been solid as well led by free agent acquisition Cam Atkinson, who leads Philadelphia with 4 goals.

The Oilers are 5-0-0, but the Flyers could be a tough test. Edmonton’s starting goalie is expected to be Mikko Koskinen, and while he is having a good start in net, he has shown to be unreliable at times. There is strong value on the Flyers money line tonight as they look to break the Oilers win streak as road underdogs. All good things eventually come to an end, and it just may be in this game.

Dallas Stars -1.5 (+184) over Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights are playing sub-par hockey right now. They have lost 4 of their last 5, with their lone win coming against a struggling Colorado Avalanche team last night. Now, injuries to star players Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty have something to do with that, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Offensively, Vegas does everything right except for put pucks in the net. They rank 3rd in expected goals for per 60 at 3.04, and are 4th in high-danger shots, but are dead last in goals scored with 10 and 28th in goals per game at 2.  Defensively, they can’t keep the puck out of their net. They are 14th in goals against and 27th in goals against per game.

The Stars may be an average team, but they are playing better hockey than the Golden Knights, especially on the defensive end. Dallas will start Braden Holtby, who has had a mild resurgence to his play as he is the 5th-ranked goalie in goals saved above expected.  Also, the defense in front of him has been solid, ranking 11th in expected goals against per 60.
