After what was arguably the strangest night of the NHL season to date, we at least have a loaded 10-game slate tonight. There were just 4 games on Monday and the first 3 of them were shutouts. The winners were all road teams, 2 of which were underdogs. It was truly one of those inexplicable nights that also make hockey great.

Regardless, we’re back with our favorite and most valuable plays tonight. We’re hoping that the road trend doesn’t continue, because we’re backing teams on home ice. Let’s dive into the reasoning.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 over Columbus Blue Jackets (-155)

Leading things off is the least shocking of your plays. That can be seen immediately by the expensive price even on the puck line. However, it’s very much warranted given the mismatch. The Lightning are the 2nd-highest scoring team on home ice, while the Blue Jackets are the worst team in the Eastern Conference. Columbus has also already been smashed by the worst team in the entire NHL — the Chicago Blackhawks — by a final of 5-2. That game was actually just shortly after losing to the Lightning by a final of 4-1.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that this game is listed with the rare Tampa Bay -2.5 puck line at some sportsbooks. The Jackets are actually coming off of arguably their best weekend of the season, but they also just suffered a shutout loss. Holding the Washington Capitals to only 1 goal was the impressive part — but nonetheless it was still a loss. Either way, Tampa Bay has already defeated Columbus 5-2 and 4-1 this year and will be back at home following 2 road losses and 4 days of rest. Expect a storm to roll over the Blue Jackets.

Buffalo Sabres 3-way ML (+130) over Seattle Kraken

Next up is certainly the most interesting play to break down. Both of these teams were just in action last night. The Sabres were absolutely stunned, getting shut out 4-0 by the Philadelphia Flyers. Meanwhile, the Kraken won their game by that same final score. That’s right; we’re backing Buffalo. If we base every pick off of just the most recent sample, we would never be profitable. The Sabres certainly had an off night, but they can still show off their high-flying offense tonight.

They are still averaging more than 4 goals per game on home ice and lead the entire NHL in goals per game. Seattle may have pulled off a shutout last night, but doing so against the Montreal Canadiens is not the same as taking on Buffalo. This is also a revenge game for the Sabres. Adding to the parts of this play that may make you want to back off is the fact that the Kraken beat Buffalo earlier this year. Again, this is about the Sabres capitalizing on a Seattle team now having a goaltender in net with a .881 save percentage. Watch Tage Thompson go off against a fatigued Kraken defense.

St. Louis Blues ML (+145) over Calgary Flames

Seeing the Blues as such significant underdogs at home is one of the biggest surprise lines of the last few weeks. Firstly, they are coming off of an incredible win in which they shut out the division-rival Minnesota Wild. Better yet, they did so on the road. That was just 2 games removed from defeating the New Jersey Devils — one of the best teams in the entire NHL — on the road,

Prior to that was yet another road win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, in which they scored 6 goals. Meanwhile, the Flames just lost to the worst team in hockey — the aforementioned Blackhawks. Given all of that, it’s very surprising to see that Calgary is such a significant road favorite. However, there’s still more. These teams have already faced off this season — just 3 weeks ago. That game was up in Calgary, and the Blues took down the Flames 5-2. Rather than trying to understand this pricing, we’ll just take the value while we can.

Don’t miss out on our NHL player props for tonight’s action!
