Now for today’s mega parlay:

Hurricanes/Bruins under 5.5 (-110)

Lightning -1.5 (+124)

Sabres/Senators over 6 (-112)

Parlay odds: +709

Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins under 5.5 (-110)

With both teams having top-10 offenses and averaging at or over 4 goals per game in their last 5 games, you would think the over on the total would be an easy cash. However, it is the defensive units that really drive these teams. The Bruins are 5th in the league in terms of goals allowed per game (2.54), while the Hurricanes are 1st (2.29). In addition, the Bruins allow the least amount of pressure in their own zone over anyone else. The Hurricanes have one of the best goalies in the league right now in Frederik Andersen. On the year, he has a .928 save percentage and a .208 GAA. Look for a low-scoring game as these teams lean on their defensive units, and place your bet on the under.

Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (+124) over Los Angeles Kings

As strong as the Kings have played lately, Tuesday’s game will be the second half of a back-to-back for them, and they will also be without Adrian Kempe. Those small bits of adversity may not be as tough to overcome against an equal or worse team. But against the Lightning, it may bury the Kings. Kempe is LA’s 2nd leading scorer and unfortunately for LA, he is stuck in the league’s health and safety protocols. He plays 18:13 a night and contributes both even strength and on special teams.

For Tampa, Ondrej Palat is questionable, but overall they are better positioned to backfill injuries. Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point have each had extended stints on the IR this season, and despite that, Tampa managed to stay at or around the top of the NHL standings. With those guys back, Tampa is as deep and good as any team in the league. Tampa’s depth against a Kempe-less Kings team on a back-to-back should be a difference-maker in this one. Tampa’s strong form hasn’t wavered much lately.

Buffalo Sabres vs Ottawa Senators over 6 (-112)

Buffalo’s goaltending room has been a mess this year. Between COVID absences and injuries, none of Buffalo’s netminders have been able to find a groove between the pipes. Journeyman Aaron Dell started last night for the Sabres, which means that goalie Michael Houser is the likely Buffalo goaltender tonight. Houser is a recent call-up and minor league journeyman, and has only played in 4 career NHL games, with a .901 save percentage to his name. The Senators aren’t exactly a goal-scoring machine, but they actually rank a respectable 16th in goals scored per 60 minutes. Defensively, the Senators are much worse, as they rank 30th in goals allowed per game. This could be a high-scoring affair.
