New York Rangers -1.5 over Columbus Blue Jackets (-140)

This is a very lopsided matchup in favor of the Rangers. As long as they don’t just mail it in, they could run up the score on the Blue Jackets. The Rangers are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and the regulation loss in that span was a close 3-2 game against a very good Hurricanes team. New York is in great form and is clicking at the right time. Even if the Rangers were not on such a good run, they would still have a major edge against Columbus. They have been beating good teams at home and on the road, and in high-scoring and low-scoring games. They shouldn’t have much of an issue beating the Blue Jackets.

Columbus won 2 consecutive games last week, then promptly followed it up with an 8-2 loss to Montreal. The Blue Jackets have allowed 5+ goals in 8 of their last 10 games. That will not get it done against most teams in the league, especially an elite team such as the Rangers. The Blue Jackets do not score at a clip even close to the rate at which they allow goals. In their 7 losses over that 10-game stretch, they have a -24 goal differential for an average loss by 3.42 goals. Columbus can lose big. and the Rangers should roll in this one.

Vancouver Canucks ML & game total over 6.5 (+230)

The Canucks have played great hockey lately as they seemed to have found a groove since a mid-season coaching change. They are 10-2-0 in their last 12 games. The losses in that span were both by a single goal, and one was to Western Conference leaders the Golden Knights. Vancouver just looks really good right now. The Blues have had a decent stretch themselves, but they are far too volatile to expect the sustained success the Canucks have found. The Blues’ wins this month have come against the Sharks twice, Blue Jackets, Red Wings and Ducks, who are not the most challenging opponents. The Canucks are the more reliable play.

The over has hit in 7 of the Blues’ last 9 games with an average game total of 8.00 during that span. St. Louis either scored or allowed 5+ goals in 6 of those games. The Canucks are no strangers to high totals themselves. The over is 43-27-3 on their season including 25-11-1 on the road. The combined over-under records of these teams is 86-51-9. To replicate this game, the over is a combined 44-26-3 in Canucks road and Blues home games. The volatility of these teams and their shared weakness of goal prevention should continue to be a great recipe for overs. The matchup has all the requirements for offensive production.

Dallas Stars -1.5 (-105) vs Chicago Blackhawks

The Stars need to win this game to get things back on track. They are not playing badly per se, but they are 2-3-1 in their last 6 games and need to improve if they are going to remain in the thick of the race for the top spot in the Central. The Stars are still close behind Minnesota and Colorado and will want to collect every point possible in this home stretch. They should come out ready to play and look to pour it on Chicago.

There are not many teams in the NHL that are better for teams who are looking to get right to play than the Blackhawks. Chicago was a bad team that has been worse since the trade deadline. The Blackhawks have dropped their last 5 games by a combined score of 22-6 and Dallas has scored 14 goals on Chicago in 3 head-to-head matchups this season. The Stars should not take the Blackhawks for granted and they are 22-14 against the spread on the road this season. This is a great chance to pad that record.
