I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. For the second straight day, NHL fans get to enjoy early afternoon hockey without it even being a Saturday or Sunday! The Detroit Red Wings are playing their second game in Stockholm, Sweden, this time against the Toronto Maple Leafs after losing 5-4 to the Senators in overtime at the Avicii Arena yesterday. In my SGP for that game, I correctly predicted a high-scoring game and an anytime goalscorer, so let’s aim to piece it all together this time.

Along with our Maple Leafs vs Red Wings Same Game Parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL predictions for today’s action!

Red Wings vs Senators Same Game Parlay (11/17)

Maple Leafs 3-way ML (-105)

Over 6.5 goals (-125)

Auston Matthews anytime goalscorer (-105)

Parlay odds +428

Toronto Maple Leafs 3-way ML (-105) over Detroit Red Wings

I’m starting this parlay by taking the Maple Leafs to get the win. More specifically, predicting that Auston Matthews and the Leafs can do so in regulation. There’s some foreshadowing there for you, but regardless, the Leafs have won 3 of their last 4 games, and continue to be a favorite to win the Eastern Conference. Of course, they are also getting the Wings on the second leg of a back-to-back.

Detroit was able to force overtime against the Ottawa Senators yesterday, but ultimately fell short. The Wings had James Reimer in net, who may technically be listed as the backup, but has the far better save percentage (.917) in comparison to starter Vile Husso. I don’t have much confidence in Husso at the moment, so look for the Leafs to find the net early and often.

Over 6.5 goals (-125)

I’m expecting plenty of goals to be scored, similar to yesterday’s afternoon game in the NHL Global Series. Even if we don’t see another 9 goals, 7 will do just fine. I simply don’t have much faith in Husso, as he hasn’t looked the same since leaving the St. Louis Blues for Detroit. He was supposed to help them improve after some quite awful goaltending two seasons ago, but the Wings were still just barely outside the bottom 10 in terms of goals allowed per game last season.

That has largely been the kryptonite for the Leafs, too, and the reason why such a talented roster got just their first playoff series win since 2004 last year. It is a problem again this year, as they’re allowing the 7th-most goals per game. Therefore, another high-scoring game looks to be in the cards.

Auston Matthews anytime goalscorer (-105)

Rounding things out is Auston Matthews to continue being one of the best goalscorers of his generation. It’s something we’ve mentioned in the past, but it still bears repeating, as becoming the first American-born skater to record a 60-goal season is quite a feat. He began this year with back-to-back hat-tricks and began November with 6 goals through the first 3 games.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that he’s tied for the NHL lead in goals scored. Furthermore, he has scored 4 goals over his last 5 games against the Wings. With Detroit now having tired defensive skaters following their game yesterday, that’s a trend I expect to continue. I’m locking in Matthews to score as the final leg of our parlay.
