New York Rangers -1.5 (+140) vs St. Louis Blues

If the Blues are going to beat the Rangers, they will have to play a near-perfect game. It is not exactly going out on a limb to say they are far from a perfect team. Considering New York’s strong current form, their B-game should be able to topple the Blues’ A-game if St. Louis can bring it. These teams met in December and the Rangers won 6-4. A repeat result would not be remotely surprising. Since then, the Rangers have improved while the Blues have sold off assets. In fact, a Blues goalscorer from that game now dons a Rangers sweater as the Vladimir Tarasenko trade only lessened St. Louis’ scoring depth and increased that of New York.

The Rangers are the better team and playing well. They are 9-2-1 in their last 12 games and 24-15 against the spread on the road this season. The Rangers outmatch the Blues in just about every aspect on both sides of the puck. The Blues are 37-41 against the spread this season including 17-22 at home. Their 27thranked goal prevention does not give them much wiggle room to find success, and should be the case once again against an elite team. The Rangers should roll.

Dallas Stars ML & game total over 6.5 (+180) vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Stars should come out buzzing. They are in a 3-way tie for the top spot in the Central Division with a week and a half left in the season. Their playoff spot is clinched, but their playoff seed is not. The Stars have played the Flyers once this season and ran up the score with a 5-1 win. They have a favorable matchup to do something similar again. The Stars are the better team and in better form and they should be able to take care of business.

If the Stars come close to that level of production, the over will have a good look as they have had a few hiccups lately in goal prevention, allowing 4+ goals in 5 of their last 10 games. The Stars seem to be vulnerable on the defensive side of the puck and while they should still win, the door will be open for the Flyers to score at least a couple which would contribute to the over.

Los Angeles Kings win (+110) vs Vegas Golden Knights

This sets up to be a great game. These teams are very familiar with each other and both have played some fantastic hockey over the past month. In a game that could be a pick ’em, the plus-money for the Kings outright is pretty good value. Los Angeles has won 2 of the 3 matchups played between these teams this season by a combined score of 12-7. There is something about the way these teams stack up against one another that the Kings either like or which just plain favors them. Los Angeles has a 41-37 record against the spread (ATS) this season, including 24-15 ATS on the road. They have also comfortably covered in the last 2 games against Vegas.

The ATS numbers don’t look as great for Vegas. The Golden Knights are 39-39 ATS on the season and 15-24 at home specifically. Both splits favor the Kings. Against their shared Pacific Division opponents, the Kings have a better record overall, in home road splits, as a favorite, as an underdog, against the spread overall and ATS both at home and on the road. Again, this game could be a coin flip. But the head-to-head results and underlying numbers favor the Kings, who happen to be plus money outright underdogs. The trends looks good for the Kings and their odds have too much value to not play.
