After a wild Saturday, we have another great 8-game slate today. Once again, we’re blessed with afternoon hockey, which was the best part of yesterday’s action. The New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils game was incredible as expected, but that overtime game was followed up by a shootout with the Eastern Conference-worst Columbus Blue Jackets beating the 2nd-best in the league, the Carolina Hurricanes. That just goes to show how difficult the NHL can be to predict. Even still, that won’t stop us from breaking down today’s games. The last time we took the 2-leg approach we have today, we cashed, so let’s get after it.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Dallas Stars -1.5 & over 6.5 (+390) over Florida Panthers

The Stars have arguably been at their dimmest as of late. They just lost their last 2 games, with the most recent coming by way of a bad Anaheim Ducks team. However, there is no need to panic. They’re still leading the Central Division and have the 2nd-most points in the Western Conference. Now they’ll also be back in Dallas as well. Taking this play last season against the Panthers would be quite the risk, but they simply aren’t looking like the former Presidents’ Trophy winners.

They were as low as the 2nd-worst team in the Atlantic Division this week, and are only 1 point removed from that spot currently. It’s going to be a tough task to slow down a Stars team that is not only frustrated with their recent losses, but also back in Dallas. They’re the 3rd-highest scoring team on home ice, averaging 3.83 goals per game. Until Florida proves they can keep up with teams in that department like they did last season, there’s no reason to trust them on the road.

Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 (+115) over Arizona Coyotes

Speaking of teams on the road, that’s where we’re headed for another great plus-money play. The Penguins have a great opportunity to bounce back from their current losing streak. Falling to the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins — 2 of the best teams in the NHL — and the Vegas Golden Knights in the first game of a west-coast road trip are not the most embarrassing defeats they could have had. On the flip side, the Coyotes just suffered what could be considered just that. They just lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, easily the worst team in the league.

However, that doesn’t quite do it justice. The Coyotes were completely shut out in that game. Chicago still has yet to even record double-digit wins this season, so that speaks volumes to Arizona’s scoring woes. With these teams being in different conferences, they don’t meet often, but they have already played once this season. Pittsburgh took that game in convincing fashion by a final of 6-2. There’s too much veteran leadership on the Pens to let this recent rough stretch continue against a poor Coyotes team.

Don’t miss out on our NHL player props for today’s action – we’re on a 5-1 run!
