NHL Sunday mega parlay: A smaller slate with plenty of value

There are just 5 games this evening in the NHL. We’re looking to parlay 3 teams that we think have a great chance at hitting and hopefully pay big. This parlay has more than a 10/1 payout. But before we dive in, be sure to check out all of our picks and previews for every game tonight.  You can also follow Pickswise on Twitter for plenty of daily betting content.

This parlay is paying out just under 10/1 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Golden Knights -1.5 (+190)

Predators ML (-111)

Canucks ML (-105)

Parlay odds +1080

Let’s break down each of the legs one by one.

Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 vs Detroit Red Wings (+190)

This is the tail end of a back-to-back for both teams who are coming off victories yesterday. Both teams showed great resilience in their comebacks, more notably though the Golden Knights came back from 2-0 down to score 5 unanswered goals to defeat the Canadiens. The Red Wings needed overtime to decide a winner last night against the Sabres and they could be a little more worn down heading into tonight’s game. After a shaky start to the season, Vegas has won 2 in a row, outscoring their opponents 10-3 in that span. The team looks more energized and they are starting to find a way to play without their best forwards; Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty. If they can build on the momentum from their previous 2 games, they should be able to have another complete game against the Red Wings.

Laurent Brossoit is expected to start for Vegas tonight. He’s appeared in only 1 game, which he won, posting a .920 SVP. If the backup can have another steady night in goal, they should be able to walk away with a 3rd win in a row. The spread provides excellent odds in this matchup, they’ve covered the spread in their last 2 games with ease. Take the Knights on the puck line.

Nashville Predators ML vs Chicago Blackhawks (-111)

The Chicago Blackhawks just look like a defeated organization right now. They have won just 1 game this season and have been outscored 26-47 in their 12 games played. After their GM was relieved of his duties for his participation in the 2010 scandal, they fired their head coach yesterday, which might only be the beginning for the future moves of this franchise. Chicago is currently allowing the second-most goals per game with just under 4. Against Nashville’s powerplay, which is operating at 28.6%, the Blackhawks should be in for another loss tonight.

Juuse Saros is expected to play for the Predators. He’s currently posting a 2.35 GAA and .923 SVP through 9 games played. If he can have a solid night in the net, it’ll be unlikely that the Blackhawks will get their second win of the season tonight. The odds are currently a pick ’em which is a shock. Taking the Predators on the money line should prove to be one of the best bets of the night.

Vancouver Canucks ML vs Dallas Stars (-105)

Neither of these teams has been overly impressive through the first eighth of the season. However, the Canucks have a lot more offensive weapons. This is the first meeting between these teams in nearly 2 years, so there’s an element of the unknown. But we like the Canucks to get back in the win column against a Stars team that’s built with little to no offensive capability. The Stars currently have the third-worst shooting percentage in the league with just 7%. If the Canucks can stick to their season average of allowing only 30 shots per game, goaltender Thatcher Demko could be the deciding factor on if Vancouver can pull off a win. Demko is currently posting a 2.65 GAA and .920 SVP through 9 games. Against such a poor shooting team as Dallas, the Canucks could win big tonight.

The Canucks’ superstars have admittedly been underperforming, but they’re still getting way better depth scoring compared to the Stars. Vancouver has 4 players with 7 or more points, while the Stars have just 1 with more than 7 points. Through 10 games, the Stars have recorded only 22 goals. Simply put, they’re just not a very good offensive team and the Canucks have some value on the money line. Take the Canucks to win straight up.
