St. Louis Blues ML over Chicago Blackhawks (-148)
As the host, the Blackhawks should have a little extra jump in their step. Beyond that, there is not much going for this Blackhawks team. They sit at the very bottom of the 32-team league standings, they rank 30th in goals scored per game and they rank 26th in goals allowed per game. Chicago enters the Winter Classic having dropped 4 straight games and 13 of the last 16 against St. Louis.
The Blues are mathematically very much alive for the playoff race but it could be too little too late. For now, though, these 2 points are very important. They are the better team in better form and have more on the line. Head coach Jim Montgomery and assistant coach Claude Julien have both been head coaches of Winter Classic teams before. They will have this veteran team focused and ready to win the franchise’s 3rd Winter Classic in as many appearances.

Over 5.5 (-108)
Volatility has been common for both teams lately. In the Blues’ last 3 games, they have scored 13 goals and allowed 8 goals for an average game total of 7. Meanwhile, in the Blackhawks’ last 4 games, their game totals have averaged 7.75 goals. The lack of goal prevention and general lack of consistency between these teams bodes well for a higher total. The total has gone over in 4 of the last 6 played head-to-head. The recent form of each team, scoring ability of the Blues, and lack of a goal-prevention strength indicate that high-scoring trends have a good chance to continue.
Dylan Holloway (STL) over 0.5 goals (+240)
Arguably the Blues’ best player in the last couple of weeks has been Dylan Holloway. One of two teammates who were restricted free agent steals, Holloway has proven to be worth the gamble. He has 13 goals and 24 points this season along with a +7 rating in nearly 16 minutes of ice time per game. Holloway enters this game with 5 points in his last 3 games and gets a very favorable matchup against the Blackhawks.
In addition to solid recent form, Holloway has earned himself a great spot in the Blues’ lineup. He is currently slated on the second line and top power play. His time on ice has ticked up in the last 5 games, indicating the trust he has earned by his coaches to garner more ice time and higher leverage situations. Look for the Blues to continue leaning on the 23-year-old to produce.
