It’s Saturday in the NHL, which means afternoon hockey. Not only is the first puck-drop nice and early, there are a solid 8 games. Three of them will get started before the slate usually begins, and we’re also targeting the very first matchup of that day. Along with these, we have 2 other plays to piece together a mega parlay to help boost your bankroll for all of the sports in action this weekend. There’s a bit less time to get our play in, so let’s check it out.
Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for today’s action.
Nashville Predators -1.5 (+170) over Ottawa Senators
As promised, we’re getting things started with the very first puck drop of the day. It’ll be in the Music City as the Predators host the Senators. The game taking place in Nashville is (pun intended) music to the Preds’ ears. They’ve been far superior at home, as shown by their top-10 home record of 7-3-2. The most significant difference has been seen when comparing their goaltending splits. On the road, the Preds are allowing the 5th-most goals per game. However, they’re allowing the 6th-fewest goals per game in their own arena.
This will also be their first game back in Nashville after a 3-game home stretch, and before that wasn’t the best situation either. A broken water main break caused 2 of their games to be postponed, so this will be a mini-homecoming of sorts. It also doesn’t hurt that they’ll be taking on the last place team in the Atlantic Division. The Senators are coming off back-to-back losses, and are just 4-6-2 on the road. They’re far from Ottawa this afternoon, which should allow the Predators to make prey of the Sens today.

Buffalo Sabres vs Pittsburgh Penguins – Over 7 (+115)
If it feels like the Sabres and Penguins just played one another, that’s because they did. In a very odd scheduling situation, they just faced off in Buffalo last night and will now do the same in Pittsburgh. Whether up in the Queen City or down in Steel City, expect plenty of goals. They needed overtime to go over the total last night, but now we’ll be getting backup goaltenders. Each of the Sabre’s have sub-.890 save percentages, which bodes well for another high-scoring matchup. Regardless, Buffalo has allowed the 5th-most goals overall this season, and at 4.14 goals allowed per game, have allowed the absolute most over the last month.
That’s something the Pens can continue to capitalize on. After scoring 4 goals last night, they’re now scoring the 7th-most per game this season. Similarly, the Sabres have needed to make up for this poor goaltending and have scored the 5th-most goals per game this year. It certainly helps that they just scored 9 goals prior to last night’s game. That too was on the road. We may not get another 5 goals from Tage Thompson alone, but don’t be surprised if at least 1 of these teams net at least 5 tonight.

Carolina Hurricanes 3-way ML (+105) over New York Islanders
We’re wrapping up our mega parlay with one of the later games, but it’s still not a late west-coast game. The Hurricanes are heading up to the Big Apple to take on the Islanders this evening. Despite being on the road, Carolina is still listed as the clear favorite. That’s primarily due to New York having just been on the ice last night. Not only that, they took on arguably the best team in the NHL – the New Jersey Devils. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Islanders had their star goaltender Ilya Sorokin in net for that matchup.
The Isles rely a great deal on Sorokin to lead them to low-scoring wins, so not having him available is a major blow for their chances tonight. On the flipside, the Hurricanes remain one of the strongest defensive teams in the NHL. They limit the pressure put on net by allowing the 2nd-fewest shots per game, and are in turn allowing the 7th-fewest goals per game. New York won’t be as strong without Sorokin between the pipes, which should allow the Hurricanes to storm past the Islanders tonight.
