I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. February is winding down, which means the NHL season continues to heat up. Plenty of teams are still in the playoff race, but only 8 from each conference will make it. It’s a light Monday with just 5 games, but I have targeted 3 to create our NHL mega parlay for today. Of the 2 I’m not focused on, I expect the Stars to come out on top and when it comes to the Blackhawks vs Ducks there’s no reason to trust either of those teams.

There is just 1 game in the early time slot, but I have a play on it. Let’s dive into it.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Ottawa Senators ML (-135) over Detroit Red Wings

Tonight offers an interesting slate of games, where there is only 1 matchup in the 7:00 pm ET time slot — in Ottawa, with the Senators hosting a division rival in the Detroit Red Wings. To add to the scheduling awkwardness, these teams face off again tomorrow night — also in Ottawa. It’s a strange situation, but the Sens will be looking to continue their success against the Wings.

They have defeated Detroit in 5 of the last 6 meetings and 7 of the last 10. Not only that, but many of those matchups weren’t even close. Prior to the most recent meeting on Christmas Eve, the Sens took down the Wings by 3 goals for 4 straight games. That’s not what Detroit fans want to hear after they just watched their team get shut out in their most recent game. Ottawa doesn’t have the likes of Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy in net, but they can still hold their own on home ice.

Boston Bruins -1.5 (+185) over Edmonton Oilers

With that division rivalry will be an exciting game to get the night started, this is where all eyes will shift to. The Bruins have been the best team in the NHL all season, while the Oilers have the best player in Connor McDavid. Even fans of other teams wouldn’t mind this being the matchup we see in the Stanley Cup Finals. Despite being on the road and in the midst of a lengthy road trip, the Bruins are still favored on the road.

They have earned that respect, and I think they can even take it by multiple goals. It may take an empty netter to do it, but even goaltender Linus UIllmark just had one in Boston’s latest win. He’s the clear favorite to win the Vezina Trophy for the league’s best goalie and the primary difference between these teams. While the Bruins allow the fewest goals per game, Edmonton just allowed 6 goals in a loss to a bad Columbus Blue Jackets team. You can be sure David Pastrnak and the Bruins are itching for this matchup after seeing that poor goaltending performance.

Vegas Golden Knights ML (+115) over Colorado Avalanche

Wrapping up our NHL mega parlay is another matchup we may see late in the season, such as the Western Conference Finals. These were the 2 teams projected to be there last year, but injuries riddled the Knights season. However, they have bounced back this season and then some. Vegas has been atop the Pacific Division virtually all season, while the Avs have been trying to claw their way back up the Central from the jump.

They have done well in that quest, but the Knights are one of the teams out west that can put up a fight. Vegas did just lose in a shutout to the Dallas Stars, but that’s also the team above the Avs in the Central. Despite that, they have still enjoyed a strong month and are 6-1-3 in their last 10 games. Last month also began well for the Knights, as they defeated the Avs, holding them to just 2 goals. Not only that, but it was also a matchup in Colorado. Both of the first 2 meetings between these teams were 1-goal games, so this play might be a sweat, but I’ll roll the dice with Vegas.
