I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Apparently, the NHL takes Halloween pretty seriously, as we have just 3 games on the board today. However, that’s just enough for us to piece together our favorite plays to make a parlay that has a solid payout. We’ve got 2 Eastern Conference matchups and just 1 Western Conference game on the board, but we’ve found the best ways to play each of them. There’s an emphasis on home teams performing well, so let’s break down our mega parlay. Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for today’s action.

Carolina Hurricanes 3-way ML (-115) over Washington Capitals

This could be a postseason preview, as both of these Metro Division teams made the playoffs last season. They each also have 5 wins so far this year, and are both coming off of victories. However, the Capitals took a pretty big loss in their victory over the Nashville Predators. Right winger T.J. Oshie lasted less than 2 minutes on the ice before suffering an upper-body injury. If that wasn’t bad enough, defenseman John Carlson also suffered an injury in that game.

Washington relies on their core of Oshie, Carlson, Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov being able to lead the team. Meanwhile, the deadly duo of Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho has led the Hurricanes to a 5-2-1 record to begin their season. It’s also worth noting that this will be Carolina’s first home game since their season opener. They’ve been on the road for 7 straight games, so you can be sure PNC Arena will be rocking. It’s already one of the toughest places to play and a Caps roster not at 100% looks set to struggle on Monday night.

Buffalo Sabres 3-way ML (+110) over Detroit Red Wings

The other Eastern Conference matchup tonight is between 2 teams looking to make it at least as far as the Hurricanes and Caps did last season. Both the Sabres and Red Wings missed the postseason last year but look to be in the hunt so far this season. They’re both in the top half of the Metro Division and have pulled out some great wins. Detroit just upset the Minnesota Wild their last time on the ice. However, Buffalo has shown some real consistency in beating great teams on the road.

They recently just pulled off a 3-game road winning streak in Canada that included victories over the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. The addition of former Jets goaltender Eric Comrie has paid off for Buffalo, as he held Connor McDavid and the Oilers to just 2 goals. The Sabres are also coming off of a win themselves and will get to be at home for this matchup. The Wings have still had some shaky losses recently, including a 2-game stretch of getting outscored 11-3. Given Buffalo’s consistency and home-ice advantage, they can jump up to 2nd in the Metro by tonight’s end.

St. Louis Blues 3-way ML (+100) over Los Angeles Kings

Halloween night caps off with the Western Conference clash between the Blues and Kings. St. Louis has been in quite the slump since beginning the season 3-0-0, but they can start up a new win streak tonight. The Kings have been mediocre at best, as proven by their 5-5-0 record. We’ve seen them defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning, but also lose 4-1 at home to the Seattle Kraken. That type of inconsistency is bad news against a team as physical and deep as the Blues.

St. Louis returns 8 of 9 skaters that recorded at least 20 goals last season, and Pavel Buchnevich just returned to the lineup. That’s a great boost to the team that already has young studs like Jordan Kyrou, who recorded 2 goals in their last game. Although the Blues suffered a defeat in that game, they get to remain home for this matchup. The last time the Kings were outside of Los Angeles, they lost back-to-back games by a combined score of 10-4. The Blues dethroned the Kings in back-to-back meetings last season by a combined score or 10-3, so expect them to get back on track tonight.
