The Kraken and Stars had different routes to the second round of the NHL playoffs, but they are set to meet tonight. Few expected Seattle to beat Colorado in the first round, and although they are the underdogs in this series, rival teams and fans will take them a lot more seriously now. If anyone on the Avalanche had their foot off the gas thinking it was going to be easy, that will not be the case for the Stars. These teams have flown under the radar all season but they are in the spotlight now and this should be a great series. With just 2 games on Tuesday night, check out our Same Game Parlay below to have more skin in the game.

Stars -1.5 (+145)

The Maple Leafs, Panthers, Kraken and, to an extent, the Rangers and Devils, dominated the headlines in the opening round of the NHL playoffs and rightfully so, for the most part. With that, the Stars’ series win over the Wild went pretty much under the radar. After dropping 2 of the first 3 games, only one in regulation, Dallas won the final 3 games of the series by a combined score of 11-3. The Stars were one of the best teams in the NHL this season without having any really any significant lapses. They have kept the status quo through the first series in this postseason.

Dallas has very quietly just gone about its business while other flashier teams and storylines were front and center of the hockey world. The Stars are a very good team and while Seattle without a doubt presents a challenge — as evident by the Kraken knocking off the reigning Stanley Cup champions — the Stars’ extra couple of nights off and strong form looks good for them in Game 1.

Under 5.5 goals (-120)

Low totals have been prevalent for both the Stars and Kraken through 13 combined postseason games. Although Minnesota, Dallas, Colorado and Seattle all had fantastic offenses, goals were largely difficult to come by. In Game 1, the teams will be feeling each other out a little bit, and the under trends will likely continue. Dallas ranked 3rd in the NHL in goals allowed during the regular season and has allowed 3 goals in the last 3 games. The Stars also have arguably the hottest goalie remaining in the playoffs.

The Kraken scored the 4th-most goals per game in the NHL during the regular season including the most in the league at 5-on-5. Despite that, they scored just 18 goals in their series win over Colorado, which is average of 2.57 goals per game. Dallas has better goal prevention metrics than Colorado and a better, hotter goaltender. It will be even more difficult for the Kraken to produce against the Stars, which gives the under yet another good look.

First period under 1.5 goals (-115)

In what has the makings of a low-scoring game, the first period especially will likely either go scoreless or have just 1 goal scored. The majority of play early on is likely to be between the tops of the circles. These teams should be feeling each other out to gauge the other team’s game plan as well as how the referees are going to call the game. Even if the game does get chippy, the penalty kill of both the Kraken and Stars has been good so far in the playoffs.

The Kraken allowed a first-period goal in just 1 of the final 4 games against an Avalanche team that has some of the top talent in the NHL. They have come out of the gate very strongly and will not give the Stars much space early on until the ice opens up for both teams. Dallas made adjustments and has not allowed a first-period goal in its last 3 games. This should be a tightly played first period and game.
