I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Sandwiched between last night’s 11 NHL games and tomorrow’s 13 matchups is a light 4-game slate. It’s a rather chilled Friday night, but it’s still more than enough action to piece together an NHL mega parlay. The goal is to hit an incredible payout to cover your bets for the weekend, especially with March Madness and the MLB in action. There are some very valuable spots on the board, beginning with the first game of the night. We have 3 different bet types coming at you, so let’s get into it.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Buffalo Sabres ML (+125) over New York Rangers

The first leg of our NHL mega parlay is the first game on the night. There’s no denying that the Rangers are the more complete team, but there is significant value on the Sabres in this spot. Firstly, New York was in action last night in a 2-1 loss against one of the best teams in the NHL, the New Jersey Devils. Therefore, it’s no surprise that they had starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin in net. That puts Jaroslav Halak between the pipes tonight, which is a significant downgrade.

The elephant in the room is the fact that Buffalo’s goaltending has been terrible recently. However, one of the recent games in which it wasn’t was against the Rangers less than 2 weeks ago when the Sabres allowed just 2 goals. If there’s one thing Buffalo can do, it’s find the net. The Sabres may not make the postseason, but they’re still the 3rd-highest scoring team in the league. With the Rangers fatigued and with a backup goaltender, we’ll take the plus-money with Buffalo at home.

Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+110) over Detroit Red Wings

If there’s a team that should be frustrated with their recent play it’s the Winnipeg Jets. They went from potentially winning the Central Division to simply fighting to maintain the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. However, tonight presents a great opportunity for them to get back on the right track. Again, despite just 8 teams being on the ice, we have another team on the second leg of a back-to-back. The Red Wings hosted the Carolina Hurricanes last night, who are arguably the best team in the NHL behind the Boston Bruins.

Detroit was shut out by a weak Philadelphia Flyers team last weekend, which bodes well for a great goaltender in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck. While the Jets offense has struggled as of late, they’re still very stout in terms of goaltending and overall defense. Again, the Wings are nothing to write home about defensively, so Kyle Connor and company should view this as a great bounce-back opportunity. Detroit also has the league’s 9th-worst road record and with them now traveling after being at home last night, we’ll back the Jets with confidence.

Calgary Flames 3-way ML (+130) over Vancouver Canucks

Finally, we have a late-night game, but not quite the nightcap. This Pacific Division battle takes place just 30 minutes before the Stars vs Coyotes, but there is much more value in this matchup. Earlier in the season, the Flames would have been much more significant favorites in this spot. However, a sub-par season has got us to this point. Even so, the Canucks’ year has been even worse.

Calgary still has playoff hopes, whereas Vancouver gave those up near the trade deadline. They sent former captain Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders and they’ve had goaltending issues all season. They’re allowing the 5th-most goals per game. The Flames haven’t been as hot as their expected goals numbers illustrate, but goalie Jacob Markstrom is still a very solid netminder. Although the chances aren’t high, Calgary still has a shot at the wild-card spot. Until that ceases to exist, we’ll back a motivated Flames bunch, even on the road.
