While the other NHL Eastern Conference series has the makings of a goal-fest, the Devils and Hurricanes look poised to give us a very tightly played series with a slim margin of error. Without any time to dwell on success, New Jersey and Carolina are right back at it in what should be a great second-round series.

Along with our Devils vs Hurricanes Same Game Parlay, be sure to check out our Oilers vs Golden Knights SGP and all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Devils -1.5 (+260)

The Devils have looked fantastic since dropping their first 2 games of the playoffs in ugly fashion. They lost back-to-back 5-1 games, but made adjustments that led to them taking the series. Since Game 2, the Devils are 4-1, outscoring the Rangers 15-5. They are arguably the fastest team remaining in the playoffs and their speed completely overwhelmed a deep, veteran team. Their form looks too good to fade right now.

With all due respect to the Islanders, the Hurricanes may have had the least challenging road to the second round. It took an average of only 2.67 goals per game for the Hurricanes to win that series. Since the Devils have made their adjustments, it looks like the Hurricanes will need much more production than they showed against the Islanders. The Devils have looked better against a stronger opponent than Carolina did against a weaker opponent.

Under 5.5 goals (-135)

Low totals were a common theme for both the Devils and Hurricanes in their opening series. The average game total between the Islanders and Hurricanes was 4.67 and the average between the Rangers and Devils was 4.86. New Jersey and Carolina just smothered their opponents, and while it is one thing to do that in the regular season, it is even more impressive in the playoffs. It is also no surprise, though. The Hurricanes and Devils finished the regular season ranked 2nd and 8th respectively in goal prevention in the NHL. This matchup has “defense and goaltending” written all over it.

The Devils scored the 5th-most goals in the league this year but were held to 2 or fewer goals in 4 of the 7 games in the last round. They successfully shut down the Rangers, who are a better offensive team than the Hurricanes. Ultimately, both teams have been successful this season by way of goal prevention and, especially in the first game of the series when these teams will likely be playing a little tight, the under looks like a good play.
