I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Today’s huge 9-game NHL slate features an early afternoon game, which in itself brings extra excitement on a Thursday. Those are generally reserved for the weekend, but we have an Atlantic Division rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators. These franchises are looking to get back into the playoffs, so today could end up going a long way if there is just one wild-card spot up for grabs come the end of the season. With a pivotal matchup on deck, I’ve prepared a Same  Game Parlay for the action.

Along with our Red Wings vs Senators Same Game Parlay picks, be sure to check out all of our NHL predictions for today’s action!

Red Wings vs Senators Same Game Parlay (11/16)

Red Wings ML (-105)

Over 6.5 goals (-140)

Brady Tkachuk anytime goalscorer (+135)

Parlay odds +675

Detroit Red Wings ML (-105) over Ottawa Senators

Not only do we get early hockey, but it’s set to be about as close of a matchup as possible. The Sens are just slight favorites at home, but I’m going to back the Wings to pull off the slight upset. After all, they have already taken down Ottawa a couple of weeks ago. That was a convincing 5-2 victory, which was also on the road. While both teams have the ability to find the net, the Detroit defense has taken a step up in recent seasons, led by youngster Moritz Seider.

That’s why despite both teams being high-scoring, the Wings are 3rd in the Atlantic at 8-5-2, while the Sens are dead last in the division. This is also another rematch against a former team for Alex DeBrincat, who has been thriving in Detroit. The Michigan native has fitted right in, leading the team in goals with 10 through 15 games. They may not get another 3-goal victory, but I’m taking Detroit’s money line.

Over 6.5 goals (-140)

This leg likely comes as no surprise given some of the comments above. Both teams have the ability to find the net, as evidenced by them both being in the top 5 in terms of goals per game. Both average over 3.5 per game, and Ottawa is just outside the bottom 10 in terms of goals allowed per game. So, not only does that support a high-scoring game, but it also supports the pick on Detroit’s money line.

When these teams met in mid-October, there were 7 goals scored, and that continued the trend that we see whenever these division rivals meet. Prior to that matchup, 3 of their previous 4 games had also finished with at least 7 goals. Similarly, 3 of Ottawa’s last 4 games have seen 7 or more goals scored, and Detroit has had at least 8 goals scored in 3 of its last 4 games.

Brady Tkachuk anytime goalscorer (+135)

This leg is where we can greatly boost the odds of this SGP by targeting a goalscorer on the team we’re not taking on the money line. You may recognize the name of Brady Tkachuk of the Senators, whose brother Matthew is a star for the Florida Panthers. Both are elite goalscorers, and Brady has been a volume shooter throughout his career. We’re getting a solid price on this prop after he failed to find the net in the Sens’ most recent game, but he still had 5 shots on goal.

While he also wasn’t able to score when these teams faced off last month, he had scored in the previous two games against Detroit. In those meetings, he also had 12 total shots on goal. He has 8 goals through 13 games this season, and his 50 shots on goal puts him among the leaders in the NHL. I’ll take Tkachuk to find the net in a high-scoring Detroit win.
