Team USA’s ticket to the Championship game is already punched, so this game is not as important for them as it may be for Sweden. But the U.S. just looks that good. They flexed offense in a dominant win over Finland who beat Sweden, and flexed defense in a suffocating win over Canada in regulation who squeaked by Sweden in overtime.
The Americans may not have the urgency that the Swedes do in this game, but they are now on home ice in Boston. They won’t roll over just because they don’t need the win. They would also love to give their home fans two wins at the TD Garden this week. Team USA will keep their foot enough on the gas which is still good enough to take care of Team Sweden.

For Matthews, he doesn’t care about a lack of production because the team has been winning. However, usually with a player of his caliber, he won’t stay quiet too long.
Matthews matches up well against all 4 centers on Team Sweden, as well as a team that in general is struggling to prevent goals. His superstar linemates and power play unit only help. Now playing in front of American crowd as the Captain of Team USA, Matthews should have a little extra jam in his game on Monday to get on the scoresheet with his first goal of the tournament.
