The NFL Week 4 slate is here, and with it we have a classic NFC East rivalry matchup between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. 3-0 Philly against the surprisingly fun 2-1 Washington. What better way to celebrate the contest than by betting a Same Game Parlay? Here we go:
Washington Commanders ML (+350)
Terry McLaurin to score a touchdown (+220)
Sam Howell Over 211.5 passing yards (-110)
Parlay odds: +1336
We have a 2-leg Same Game Parlay which pays out at north of 13/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it down.
Washington Commanders ML (+350)
To start off this Same Game Parlay we have the Commanders straight up on the money line. Washington has started the year off 2-1, and their only loss was to a Super Bowl contender in the Bills. I’m not quite as sold on Philly as everyone else seems to be, and I’m not giving them too much credit for beating the Patriots and Vikings by narrow margins and then the Bucs this past week.
Even in the win over Tampa Bay I didn’t think Jalen Hurts looked particularly impressive, as he threw 2 interceptions and didn’t do much with his legs. Everyone has been ready to declare Philly one of the two best teams in the NFC, but I’m not so sure. And if there’s one thing we know about a Ron Rivera-coached team, it’s that it is always going to scrap and claw for every yards — especially coming off an ugly loss like the one the Commanders suffered at the hands of the Bills last week.
With a young quarterback there are always going to be ups and downs, but I’m optimistic about what Sam Howell and Eric Bieniemy are building long-term.
Terry McLaurin to score a touchdown (+220)
This correlates very nicely with the first leg of our parlay, since the Commanders always seem to win whenever Scary Terry finds the endzone. In fact, Washington is an impressive 8-2-1 the last 11 times McLaurin has caught a touchdown. That’s even more notable when you consider what the Commanders’ overall record is during that stretch. We have also seen McLaurin go off for some big games against the Eagles of late.
In both of his games against Philadelphia last season, McLaurin had at least 102 yards and he had 20 targets in those 2 contests. Last week the whole passing game was stifled by Buffalo, but the week before the Ohio State product scored a touchdown in the win over Denver.
Sam Howell over 211.5 yards (-110)
All we need is one good game from Howell and all 3 of these legs can hit. The UNC product has been up and down but he’s got legit upside and a high ceiling, which is all we’re looking for when making a 13/1 play like this. Howell understandably struggled against an elite Buffalo defense last week, but the week before he had 299 yards in Denver. Bieniemy has been looking to step out of Andy Reid’s shadow this season, and I have been impressed with his creativity and aggressiveness. He is going to let his young quarterback rip it.
We know Washington isn’t going to have much success running the ball on Philly’s impenetrable defensive front, so I would expect the game-plan to be centered heavily around the pass. And as a big underdog, Washington knows it has to take some shots down the field if it wants to win — hopefully to McLaurin, and we kill 3 birds with 1 stone.
