NFL Teaser Picks Week 2: Best NFL teaser bets, odds and strategies this week

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell (14) signals first down during the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals at FedExField.

Some of the most popular types of NFL bets include the classic straight bet, a parlay, a player prop and a game total. However, have you heard of a teaser? It’s like a parlay in the sense that you’re combining 2 teams, but you get to change the spread or total in your favor. At most sportsbooks, a 2-team, 6-point teaser will have odds of -120, and if it doesn’t, be sure to shop around for the best price. Make sure to check out all of our NFL Week 2 picks.

You can bet on all today’s sports at FanDuel, America’s #1 sportsbook, which has a great new customer offer where you can bet $5 and receive $200 in bonus bets plus $100 off NFL Sunday Ticket! Click here to take advantage of this awesome offer.

NFL Teaser Strategies

There is a certain strategy when putting your teaser together. That includes being aware of the key numbers: 3, 6 and 7. Those are the most common winning margins in an NFL game. So, when taking a teaser, you ideally want to be lower than 3 and higher than 7. For example, if a heavy favorite is -8.5 on the spread, I can tease them down through all 3 key numbers to -2.5. That’s an excellent teaser choice since the team can now win by 3, 6 and 7 and the teaser would win.

On the other side, taking an underdog through those key numbers is also just as valuable. If a team is +1.5 underdogs, you could tease them up to +7.5, and then that allows them to win or lose by the 3 key numbers and you would still win. There’s also the option to tease game totals in the NFL, but with how quickly and sporadic scores can happen, I tend to stay from totals and stick to spreads. It can be very fun hunting for the best teaser options each week, so let’s get into some of my teaser contenders for Week 2, and then my favorite teaser option for the Sunday.

NFL Week 2 Teaser Options

Underdogs ran wild in Week 1, and so did teams playing away from home. Road ‘dogs were 12-4 against the spread and 10-6 straight up in Week 1. I kept that in mind when selecting my favorite teaser picks for Week 2, but I also considered the fact that veteran quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson have to play better… right?

Here are my 5 favorite teaser picks for Week 2.

  1. 49ers -1 (from -7)
  2. Commanders +9.5 (from +3.5)
  3. Patriots +9 (from +3)
  4. Ravens +9.5 (from +3.5)
  5. Raiders +15.5 (from +9.5)

The 49ers came into Week 1 with high expectations, and I think it’s fair to say they met those expectations, and even exceeded them. San Francisco remains one of the top teams in the NFL, and it wasn’t much of a surprise to see them with a spread of a touchdown. I’m considering taking their -7 spread anyways, so I’ll happily tease them below a field goal. As for the Commanders, their Week 1 win was full of miscues against a weak Cardinals team. For Week 2, they travel to Denver, and I’m loving the opportunity to tease them up to 9.5 points.

As for the Patriots, Ravens and Raiders, they are all underdogs heading into Week 2. The Pats and Ravens are short underdogs, but you can still tease them through the key numbers and over a touchdown. Although both AFC teams have a difficult Week 2 opponent, teasing their spread to over a touchdown seems like a no-brainer. And lastly, we have the Raiders. Las Vegas travels to Buffalo for their Week 2 matchup, and they are nearly 10-point underdogs. I’m not surprised, nor do I disagree with the spread, but I’m still unsure of Josh Allen after Week 1. I don’t want to overreact too much over one game, but wow, his accuracy downfield was head-scratching.

NFL Week 2 Teaser Best Bet

For this teaser, I’m backing an elite team to win and the Commanders to not get blown out.

49ers -1
Commanders +9.5

San Francisco faced a top-10 defense in Week 1, and their offense didn’t skip a beat. Brock Purdy was perfect through the air and Christian McCaffrey found all the holes in T.J. Watt’s defensive line. Their next matchup comes in L.A. against a Rams team that I believe should be closer to 8-point underdogs, but their Week 1 win might have skewed the oddsmakers opinion. But teasing them to less than a field goal? Yes please.

Why am I choosing a rookie quarterback and a very young team for the second leg of a teaser? Simple – they’re playing the Broncos. There are two main reasons that I found myself gravitating towards this pick. Firstly, the Commanders could have won by 14 or more in Week 1 if they took better care of the ball. I’m not expecting Washington to turn the ball over 3 times again. Secondly, since Russell Wilson joined the Broncos, they have never beat a team by 10 points or more. In their 5 wins last season, the Broncos won by 7, 1, 4, 9 and 3. The time they won by 9 was in Week 15 against the Cardinals, but that was with Brett Rypien starting for Denver and Colt McCoy starting for Arizona. I know, a real barnburner that game was.
