Sunday Night Football in Week 10 of the NFL season is a potential Super Bowl preview. That may be more of a stretch for the Houston Texans than it is for the Detroit Lions, but it’s certainly not out of the question. The bottom line is that these are 2 outstanding teams; the result should be an entertaining primetime matchup.
Here is my Same Game Parlay for the festivities, which get underway at 8:20 pm ET on NBC. Also be sure to check out our full Lions vs Texans predictions.
Texans ML (+170)
Joe Mixon to score a touchdown (-150)
Joe Mixon to record 100+ rushing yards (+170)
Parlay odds: +460
Part of the value in a Same Game Parlay, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, as Houston running back Joe Mixon finding the endzone while also racking up a bunch of yards would obviously work well with a Texans victory. Let’s break down each of the 3 legs.
Texans ML (+170)
This could actually be a pretty good spot for the Texans, even though facing the Lions is always a tough test regardless of the circumstances. Houston has enjoyed a 10-day break since losing to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football in Week 9. Now it is at home and awaiting a friendly stretch of the schedule (after this week) in which its only road games until December 15 are against the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, Detroit is playing its second consecutive road contest and its fourth in the last 5 weeks. That’s not easy for any team – even one as good as the Lions. Missing star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson could be a significant factor; if CJ Stroud has a lot of time to throw, the visitors could be in trouble. As considerable underdogs, the Texans have great value.
Joe Mixon to score a touchdown (-150)
Although Detroit’s defense is outstanding, there should be room for Mixon to find some success on Sunday night. The Lions are allowing a modest 6.9 yards per pass attempt, which is in the top half of the NFL. Conversely, they are surrendering the sixth-most yards per rush (4.8). Moreover, head coach Dan Campbell’s crew has given up more touchdowns on the ground (8) than through the air (6). Mixon has scored 7 total TDs (6 rushing, 1 receiving) in 6 games and only once has he failed to reach paydirt.
Joe Mixon to record 100+ rushing yards (+170)
This game script – especially since we are backing Houston to win outright in this SGP – should lead to a huge night for Mixon. In addition to the star RB finding the endzone, I also expect him to amass plenty of yards on the ground. The Lions boast one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL, so the Texans’ best defense may be to simply keep them off the field. Head coach DeMeco Ryans’ team will want to control the clock and shorten the contest as much as possible. Mixon has gotten at least 24 carries in 3 straight outings; I expect him to get as many if not more on Sunday night. The Oklahoma product has also eclipsed the 100-yard mark 5 times in 6 games.
