The first Monday Night Football matchup of the season is an AFC East battle between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. All eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers, who is making his Jets debut after 18 years in Green Bay. Can Rodgers return the Jets to their winning ways in his debut? Or will Josh Allen and the Bills continue to dominate the AFC East with a Week 1 win?

Garrett Wilson to score a touchdown (+145)
One of the most anticipated new duos in the NFL this season is Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson. Although Rodgers brought Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb with him from Green Bay, it was clear from the start of camp that Wilson was going to become Rodgers’ favorite target. Wilson might not quite be on Davante Adams’ level yet, but the 2nd-year man showed incredible potential last season with Zach Wilson throwing him passes, so New York fans are very excited to see what the Ohio State product can do with a Hall of Fame quarterback this year.
We saw a little of them together in the preseason, but not a lot since Rodgers was only in for a few snaps. However, in the short time they were on the field together, their chemistry looked excellent. Plus, if the Jets want to stay competitive, they are going to need to maximize Rodgers’ ability and try to win through the air. Wilson should become Rodgers’ favorite target, and I think one of the catches can result in a touchdown.

Buffalo Bills ML (-126) over New York Jets
The oddsmakers are giving Rodgers and the Jets plenty of respect with this money line price, but still, the Bills are the team to beat in the AFC East. Buffalo returns the majority of its 2022 team with a few additions such as former Patriots back Damien Harris and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid. And of course, there’s the connection between QB Josh Allen and WR Stefon Diggs, but after several seasons of failing to make it to the Super Bowl, they have to be feeling the pressure this season.
There would be no better way to silence those doubters and strengthen their grip on the division than with a Week 1 win on the road against Rodgers and Jets. Admittedly, I don’t love that Sauce Gardner is going to be covering Diggs since that means Allen’s favorite target will be extremely limited. However, that’s why Allen has Gabe Davis and Dawson Knox. I’m expecting this to be a close game from kickoff to the final whistle, but I give the Bills the edge on Monday night.

The best way to drive up the payout of this Bills vs Jets Same Game Parlay would be to include a pick that doesn’t completely correlate with the other two. What I mean by that is Wilson scoring a touchdown and the Bills still winning would indicate that the game could be a shootout with a lot of scoring, so that’s why I included an alternate under as the final pick. I opted to give myself 5 extra points as a cushion, and that gives this Same Game Parlay odds of over 8/1.
Both the Bills and Jets have above-average defenses that have different strengths, like how Buffalo provides excellent pressure on the quarterback while New York has one of the best secondaries in the league. But the Jets also strengthened their defensive line in the offseason which had Gardner claiming the Jets could be one of the best defensive units in years. Plus, a trend has started to develop in Week 1 of quarterbacks looking incredibly rusty. Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson were just two of the many QB1s who looked out of sorts in their Week 1 matchup, so who knows, maybe Rodgers and Allen will follow suit and start slowly too.
