New York Giants +7.5 over Philadelphia Eagles (-108)

The Eagles have dominated the Giants over the years, going 20-6 straight up since 2010, but things shouldn’t come that easy on Saturday. After all, New York is 5-0 against the spread in its last 5 games while the Eagles didn’t close the season on a high note — finishing 1-4 against the number over their last 5. Oddsmakers don’t appear to be convinced that Jalen Hurts is fully healthy, and I don’t blame them. The Giants’ strong showing in Minnesota also presents some recency bias that factors into the line. However, even with that bump I still expect another strong effort from New York against a divisional foe.

The Giants’ ability to run the ball will be a key factor against a strong Eagles defensive front. Saquon Barkley has rushed 27 times for 100 yards in his last 3 meetings against the Eagles, and I expect another heavy workload for Barkley on Saturday. However, this game will likely come down to Jones’ effectiveness against a Philadelphia secondary that is much better than Minnesota’s. The Eagles have the most sacks by any team in the NFL by a wide margin this season, so I expect head coach Brian Daboll to come up with a game-plan that ensures Jones gets the ball out quickly and efficiently. While New York won’t have as much success as it did a week ago, Jones, Barkley and company should do enough to keep this rivalry matchup close.

Under 48.5 (-110)

I think a wager on the Giants to cover the spread correlates nicely with the game staying under this total. As previously mentioned, Hurts didn’t look sharp in his return to the offense in Week 18 and probably wouldn’t even have played if Philadelphia had locked up the #1 seed before then. Hurts completed only 57% of his passes and rushed 9 times for 13 yards in Week 18, and he was also sacked 3 times — which has to be encouraging for this Giants front 7. In fact, the Giants have 7 sacks in the games against the Eagles this season, and the recent offensive line injuries for Philadelphia won’t help them in that regard. Four of the last 6 meetings between these teams have stayed under, and I expect a vintage NFC East affair on Saturday with the winner scoring no more than 27 points.

DeVonta Smith anytime touchdown scorer (+135)

Philadelphia stumbled into the postseason, but the week off should do wonders for Hurts and the Eagles passing game. And even if Hurts is a bit rusty coming off an injury, he’ll have his security blanket to help him get comfortable in DeVonta Smith. The former Alabama wide receiver had a strong second season, racking up more than 1,100 receiving yards to go along with 7 touchdowns. But it was really in the final 6 games where Smith made his mark, tallying 4 touchdowns and accumulating nearly 600 receiving yards in the process.

Smith finished with 12 catches for a combined 131 yards and a touchdown in 2 games against the Giants this season, and I expect a similar effort on Saturday. If New York sells out to stop the run or looks to limit A.J. Brown’s productivity, Smith should be the beneficiary.
