The NFC playoffs are dominated by the NFC East this year, with the division formerly known as the NFC Least having bounced back to prominence and provided 3 of the final 4 teams standing in the conference. While the Dallas Cowboys take on the only out-of-division team, the San Francisco 49ers, there is inevitably an NFC East rivalry in the other game, and it’s the third meeting of the season between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is a top candidate to be Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a 14-3 record and the #1 seed in the NFC. The Giants won’t be scared of going on the road again, though, after last week’s impressive 31-24 win over the Vikings in the wild-card round, and everything is set up for a great playoff game on Saturday.

NFL New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles expert predictions
The Giants flew out of the blocks this season under head coach Brian Daboll, winning 6 of their first 7 games. Expectations were calmed when they went 1-4-1 over their next 6 games (with the win being over the lowly Texans) but a 2-2 finish proved to be enough for them to make the playoffs. The good news for Giants fans is that they look better at this point than they have at any point of the season, with QB Daniel Jones stepping up and RB Saquon Barkley looking back to his dangerous best.
The Eagles looked a pretty unstoppable force when they won 13 of their first 14 games this season, but an injury to QB Jalen Hurts slowed some of their momentum and they lost 2 of their last 3 regular-season games, albeit never looking likely to lose the #1 seed, and their Week 18 win was against Saturday’s opponents. It used to be said that beating a team 3 times in the same season was tough, but the 49ers came through for their hat-trick of wins over the Seahawks in these playoffs last week and the Eagles will be looking for more of the same in front of what should be a very noisy crowd in Philly.

Giants vs Eagles point spread pick: Giants +7.5 (-110)
It’s the third meeting between the Giants and Eagles this season. The first was a 48-22 blowout win for the Eagles at MetLife Stadium in Week 14. The second was in Week 18, when the Giants rested most of their starters but still managed to keep in close in a 22-16 loss. The Eagles have dominated the Giants over the years, going 20-6 straight up since 2010. The Giants played their best game of the year in their wild-card win over the Vikings as Daniel Jones had his coming out party. The Giants are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games while the Eagles are just 1-4 against the number over their last 5 and 8-9 ATS on the season. This line opened at 7.5 and was bet down to 7 fairly quickly as backers took the Giants over the key number of 7. But we are back at 7.5 for now. For reference, the Eagles were 7.5-point favorites in that Week 14 matchup at MetLife. This line shows some concern for oddsmakers about the health of Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who didn’t look very sharp in his Week 18 game against New York. The Giants’ strong showing in Minnesota also presents some recency bias about how well-coached the Giants are and how tough they play. The Giants’ defense held the Vikings’ top-10 offense in check last week as they got healthier. I expect another big effort from their defense.
The Giants’ ability to run the ball will be a key factor in them being able to win. They won only 2 games this season when they failed to rush for at least 125 yards. Saquon Barkley has rushed 27 times for 100 yards in his last 3 meetings against the Eagles. Still, this game should come down to Jones. He was able to pick apart a Vikings secondary that was the second-worst pass defense in the league. The Eagles have the top pass defense in the NFL this season and the most sacks by any team in the NFL by a wide margin. Brian Daboll is 4-0 ATS this year in rematch games. He will need to come up with a game plan that can allow Jones and Barkley to have as much success as they did last week, but he can do enough to keep this close.

Giants vs Eagles over/under totals pick: Under 48.5 (-115)
This feels like a correlating bet situation: Eagles and the over or Giants and the under. It’s similar to the teams’ first two matchups this year as they Eagles won and covered in Week 14 while going over, but the Giants covered and kept the total under in Week 18. The Eagles must find a way to get their offense back on track. Jalen Hurts didn’t look sharp in his return the final game of the regular season and probably wouldn’t have played if Philly had locked up the #1 seed before then. Hurts completed only 57% of his passes and rushed 9 times for 13 yards in Week 18. He was also sacked 3 times.
In fact, the Giants have 7 sacks in the games against the Eagles this season. The public has heavily bet the over already, pushing it through the key number of 47 up to as high as 48.5. Four of the last 6 meetings between these teams have gone under. Since, I’m backing the Giants, I’m taking the under as well.
