Year 1 of the Brian Daboll experience went about as well as Giants fans could’ve hoped. The first-year head coach immediately brought competency and a competitive edge back to New York, and it really showed in the team’s confidence and consistency in 1-score games. The Giants defied the odds and made the playoffs last season, but what will Daboll’s second year in the Big Apple have in store? Let’s take a look at some of the odds and best bets to be made on the New York Giants in 2023.

New York Giants 2022 NFL season recap

Brian Daboll’s first season as the head coach of the Giants was a rousing success, as he got the absolute most out of the talent that was on the roster. Daniel Jones had the best season of his career by some distance, Saquon Barkley experienced a resurgence and the Giants’ defense was opportunistic nearly every week en route to a 9-7-1 record. Once New York made the playoffs, the Giants knocked off the Minnesota Vikings on the road to advance to the Divisional Round for the first time since 2012 before ultimately falling to the Philadelphia Eagles.

New York Giants 2023 NFL season predictions

As the odds indicate, the Giants are not expected to be a playoff team this season. But is there any value on New York to overachieve preseason expectations for the second straight season? Let’s get into my predictions for this Giants side.

Best bet: New York Giants over 7.5 wins (-105)

There’s something to be said for how Daboll viewed this Giants roster a season ago and managed to maximize every last ounce of talent on the team. It was one of the best coaching jobs in the league, one that only gets more impressive once you realize it was Daboll’s first year as a head coach. Out of sheer respect for the job he did a season ago and some of the moves the Giants made to bolster their wide receiving room and offensive line,  I’m surprised this win total is juiced a bit to the under. Jones might have reached his ceiling, but that ceiling is still perfectly adequate, plus he’s got even better weapons this time around. In going through the schedule, I have the Giants projected at 8 wins this season. So while I don’t think New York makes the playoffs, there is still room to cash the over.

New York Giants season record prediction: 8-9

This is a much tougher schedule than a season ago for the Giants, but I also think New York improved in some key areas on offense. I’ve got New York finishing with a record of 8-9 and narrowly missing out on a playoff berth in the much weaker NFC. However, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Daboll have this group playing meaningful football in January once again.
