The United States came through a crucial must-win game against Iran in its final game in Group B to reach the round of 16 and a match against the Netherlands on Saturday (10:00am ET, FOX, Peacock, Telemundo).
The Dutch have not been overly convincing in the World Cup so far, and Gregg Berhalter will fancy his team’s chances of producing an upset and reaching the quarterfinals for just the second time in the nation’s history.

The United States has been eliminated at the round-of-16 stage in its last 2 World Cup campaigns, losing to Ghana in 2010 and Belgium in 2014. Both of those games went to extra-time, though, and given the impressive performances of the USMNT in Qatar so far, they can get at least a tie in regulation time against a Netherlands team that has failed to reach top gear yet and looks vulnerable.
Gregg Berhalter’s men have lost just 1 of their last 9 matches and have the energy and youth to cause major issues for the Dutch. The combination of Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah in midfield has been one of the most effective in the tournament and they face a Netherlands midfield that has not been at its best. Take the USMNT to at least get a tie in 90 minutes.

Christian Pulisic anytime goalscorer (+490)
Chrstian Pulisic came into this tournament as the top scorer in the United States squad and he showed his worth to his nation in netting the crucial goal against Iran to send the USMNT to the knockout stages. The Chelsea man went off with an injury in that game but is expected to play in this one and looks the most likely of any United States player to score, especially given it is unclear which of the USA’s strikers will start.
Pulisic has 22 goals for his country and there won’t have been many more important than one he is fancied to score in this matchup.
USA over 1.5 cards (-370)
The United States has picked up 5 cards so far in this World Cup and could be set for at least 2 more against the Netherlands. Berhalter’s insistence on energetic pressing can lead to fouls and with the stakes high given the stage of the tournament, expect some rash tackles from USMNT players.
Two or more cards to be picked up by the United States looks likely, particularly if they can get into a lead and set about robustly defending it.
