The second of tonight’s games seems like a mismatch on paper, which creates a whole host of betting opportunities. If the game is a blowout as expected, the under markets need to be explored as player minutes could be effected. That certainly played a part in my selections below.
You can find our full game previews here, But for now let’s take a look at this same game parlay.
Klay Thompson under 15.5 points (-118)
Killian Hayes over 3.5 assists (+112)
Hamidou Diallo under 0.5 made threes (-113)
Parlay odds: +616
Klay Thompson under 15.5 points (-118)
Klay Thompson returned from his extended absence with a flurry of field goal attempts in his first game, but those have come down since. His field goal attempts read as 13, 11 and 14 over his last 3 outings, with Thomson yet to make above 40% of his field goals in a game. He still seems to be on a minute restriction too having yet to play more than 23 minutes in a game. Considering tonight is expected to be a blowout, he could struggle reaching that number here.
Despite their terrible record, the Pistons are not a lost cause when it comes to defending. Over the last 10 games the team is 19th in defensive rating. They have wing defenders such as Saddiq Bey who could cause Thompson to struggle due to his level of activity defensively. The Warriors guard has reached and surpassed the 16-point mark just once in his first 4 games, and he should be heading for a similar outcome tonight.
Killian Hayes over 3.5 assists (+112)
Over the last 3 games Killian Hayes has been able to record 5 assists in each contest. In the 8 games that he has appeared in so far this month, he has recorded 4 or more assists on 5 occasions. The Golden State Warriors are a smart defensive team and will know that Cade Cunningham is the man that is going to make the Pistons tick. I expect them to focus in on him and force the ball out of his hands, with Hayes being the man most likely to take on more responsibility. The Warriors lack a defensive enforcer in the paint which should allow Hayes to have success picking out Isaiah Stewart, especially in pick and roll situations. Achieving 4 assists does not seem like a stretch for a starting point guard whose most refined skill currently is passing. Back the over.
Hamidou Diallo under 0.5 made threes (-113)
After a 34-point outburst in the first game of 2022, Hamidou Diallo has cooled off, with his 3-point shooting taking the most significant dip. So far this year he has made just 3 shots from deep in 9 games. He is shooting a miserable percentage from out there this month, making just 17.6% of his attempts. He did not attempt a 3-pointer in his last game against the Phoenix Suns despite spending 29 minutes on the court. In the 3 games prior to that he had just 4 combined attempts. Diallo is by far the most effective when attacking the rim, and with low confidence in his jumper at the moment, the under looks like the bet to make here.
The Golden State Warriors are one of the best teams in the league at defending perimeter shots. They allow their opponents to shoot at just a 32.9% clip on the season, with only 3 NBA teams holding their opponents to a worse mark. With the return of Thompson into their starting lineup, the team has regained one of their best defenders whose length should impact the Pistons shooters tonight. Diallo is not excluded from that.
