The NBA season is hitting its stride, and we have a nice big slate on Monday. One of the best games is this Western Conference showdown between the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers. Some injuries have made this matchup a bit less marquee, but it’s still a clash between two contenders in the West.
What better way to make this nationally televised battle (ESPN) even more entertaining than by betting a same game parlay? We also of course have thoughts on the side and total for each of tonight’s mega matchups.
Phoenix Suns -9.5 alt spread (+230)
Chris Paul to score 20+ points (+220)
Chris Paul to record 12+ assists (+260)
Same game parlay odds: +2275
We’ve got a three-leg parlay here, one which pays out north of 20/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it all down:
Phoenix Suns -9.5 alt spread (+230)
To start this same game parlay off we’ve got the Suns on an alternate spread. Phoenix is banged up right now, as Devin Booker will miss this one and Deandre Ayton is questionable. But the Clippers are just as, if not more, shorthanded. Paul George is doubtful for this one, and it looks like Los Angeles may be without Nic Batum, as well. Kawhi Leonard is, of course, still out. The Suns have been without Booker for four games now and haven’t looked too much worse.
They are 3-1 in those four games, most recently beating the Celtics by 21. The only loss in that span came to an elite Warriors team. Los Angeles is just 6-7 in their last 13 games despite playing a pretty soft schedule, and I think they’ve been getting a bit lucky. Their last win came by just two points at home against a terrible Magic team for example. Without George in the lineup, there’s just not enough offense.
Chris Paul to score 20+ points (+220)
For the next leg of this same game parlay we’ll need Paul to score at least 20 points. Paul’s scoring has dipped this year in his 17th season, which has caused oddsmakers to underestimate him. CP3 has been happy to be a facilitator this year, but with Booker and Ayton both sidelined a lot more has naturally fallen on his plate. Two games ago against the Spurs, Paul took 18 shots and ended up with 21 points. Paul is an emotional player, and I think he will be extra motivated to stick it to his old team here, who he had a somewhat contentious divorce with. The last time we saw him play against the Clips, he was dropping 41 points in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals.
Chris Paul to record 12+ assists (+260)
With Booker not in the lineup, Paul should have the ball in his hands on virtually every possession. That will help his scoring, and his assists output as well. CP3 has recorded double digit assists in 17 of his 25 games this year, yet his assist total is only at 9.5 for this game. That seems pretty conservative especially considering his usage rate will spike here. In his only game so far without both Booker and Ayton, Paul put up 12 assists against Boston while only playing 30 minutes. He’s gotten to at least 12 assists in nine of his last 20, so +260 seems to have a lot of standalone value even separately from this same game parlay.
