Monday NHL mega parlay: Panthers can cruise to another win

New York Rangers' Julien Gauthier (15) defends against Edmonton Oilers' Cody Ceci (5) during the third period of an NHL hockey game Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, in New York

There are 5 games tonight in the NHL. We’re looking to put 3 of the games into a parlay that will pay just under 7/1. But before we dive in, be sure to check out all of our picks and previews for every game tonight.

This parlay is paying out just under a 7/1 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Panthers -1.5 (-125)

Ducks ML (-110)

Oilers vs Senators over 6.5 goals (-110)

Parlay odds: +668

Let’s break down each of the legs one by one.

Florida Panthers -1.5 vs Columbus Blue Jackets (-125)

Both these teams are on a winning streak. However, the Panthers’ offense might be too much for the Blue Jackets to compete with. The Panthers are averaging the 2nd-most goals in the league with 4.04 goals per game. This also includes the most shots on goal per game and the 4th-best shooting percentage in the league. This team is an offensive juggernaut and the Blue Jackets could be in trouble. The Panthers are giving up just 2.3 goals per game in their last 10 matches, while they’ve averaged 4.6 goals in that stretch. Additionally, they’ve had great goaltending with a combined SVP of .926 over their last 10 games. Columbus has averaged just 3 goals per game while allowing 3.6 goals per game, and a .906 SVP. This is a mismatch and the Panthers should cover the spread. It’s tough to imagine the Blue Jackets winning this game. Their last meeting was on January 15 and the Panthers dominated, winning 9-2. Take them on the puck line.

Anaheim Ducks ML vs Detroit Red Wings (-110)

This game is surprisingly a pick ‘em. The Ducks are coming into this game on a 2-game win streak and are 2nd in the Pacific Division. There might not be a team that’s more disrespected right now than the Ducks. They’re consistently winning games and for some reason aren’t favored against the Red Wings, who are only 19-20-6 this season. Detroit also has twice as many injured players. With goaltender John Gibson expected to play for the Ducks, they have a great chance of winning. He’s one of the more underappreciated goaltenders in the league and is posting a .922 SVP. In their most recent matchup, the Ducks won 4-3 and they will be looking to repeat that tonight.

In the Red Wings’ last 10 games, they’ve won only 3. This isn’t a great team and this line is surprising. More so, Detroit is allowing nearly 5 minor penalties a game. The Ducks have the 7th-best powerplay in the league with a 25% success rate. If the Red Wings give up a lot of penalties tonight, the Ducks could run away with this one. Take them on the money line.

Edmonton Oilers vs Ottawa Senators over 6.5 goals (-110)

With their latest addition in Evander Kane, the Oilers had their first 7-goal game of the season on Saturday. After an awful losing streak, the Oilers have now won 4 in a row and will continue firing shots on the net every chance they get. The Senators allow the 6th-most goals per game with 3.36. With the superstar lineup of the Oilers, they’ll likely take advantage of the Sens’ weak defense and post a high total. The teams’ last game had 10 total goals, and that was just 2 weeks ago.

The Senators have the ability to put the puck in the back of the net too. Despite losing their last 2 games, they’re averaging close to 3 goals per game, and the Oilers’ defense hasn’t looked great either. The Oilers are allowing 3.6 goals per game over their last 10, and the Senators have the roster to exploit that. This game looks too close to pick a winner, but both teams can score and neither team has a particularly strong defensive core. Take over 6.5 goals.
