MLB pick today: Philadelphia Phillies ML over Detroit Tigers (-235), 6:40 pm ET

The Phillies will welcome the Detroit Tigers to town for a 3-game series starting tonight. On the mound for the series opener will be Joey Wentz of the Tigers and Aaron Nola for the Phillies, and that offers an immediate advantage to the home team.

Wentz has had a rough first half of the season with a 7.28 ERA in 11 starts, and he got very little run support in those outings. Nola on the other hand, has had a rather mediocre start to the season. His ERA is up to 4.70, but he has faced some of the best offenses recently — which Detroit is not. Despite his struggles, Nola is still the superior pitcher, so backing the Phillies to win will be our play.

MLB pick today: Cincinnati Reds ML over Milwaukee Brewers (-122), 7:10 pm ET

The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to complete the sweep over the Cincinnati Reds and will have Julio Tehran on the mound to try and do so. Teheran has allowed just 1 earned run in 11.0 innings, but it is unlikely that he keeps this up against a Reds offense that is much better than what they have shown. Andrew Abbott on the other hand, will be making his Major League debut tonight and is the top pitching prospect for the Reds. Backing pitchers making their debut is tough, but our play will still be the Reds, as it is hard to trust Tehran to consistently have solid outings.

NHL pick today: Florida Panthers ML over Vegas Golden Knights (+116), 8:00 pm ET

The Panthers were a period away from taking a 1-0 lead and claiming home-ice advantage, so they should feel comfortable even though the game ended in defeat because of how they were able to keep up with the pace of the Golden Knights. The Panthers will need their star players such as Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksandar Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe to get on the scoresheet to have a chance and their money line has value as they look to even up the series in Vegas.

MLB pick today: St. Louis Cardinals vs Texas Rangers – Over 9.5 runs (-118), 8:05 pm ET

We should have an entertaining early-week series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers this week, starting with this evening’s matchup between Adam Wainwright and Martin Perez. Perez is coming off his 2nd worst start of the season, allowing 6 earned runs with 2 home runs and 4 walks against the Tigers. He now draws a far tougher matchup against the Cardinals’ offense.

Wainwright, on the other hand, has allowed 3 or more runs in each of his first 5 starts to begin the season. The 41-year-old has yet to make it through 6 innings of work and his pitch-to-contact nature has resulted in only 16 strikeouts across 26.1 IP. With both starters struggling, both offenses should have their way, making the over our play.
