The MLB season is back, and the first couple of days of the campaign have already produced some tremendous action on the diamond. While there are plenty of ways to wager on all of the action on the diamond this season, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is still value to be had in this market, so it’s no wonder that these bets have become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your wagers for 3 hours, this one will take only about 15 minutes.

The NRFI/YRFI market was profitable for our MLB handicapping team last season, so let’s keep that momentum going! But before we dive in, don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Yankees: NRFI (-105)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -115.

Our best bet in the YRFI/NRFI market takes us to the Bronx on Saturday for a matchup between the Brewers and Yankees. While the weather in New York will be unseasonably warm for this time of year, the starting pitchers on both sides still instill confidence in backing a scoreless first inning in this game. It’s a bit of a role reversal for Milwaukee starter Nestor Cortes, as the left-hander is used to starting in Yankee Stadium for the home team, but will be on the other side instead. However, his familiarity with this ballpark (3.34 career ERA at Yankee Stadium) should be an aid in an early season contest against a Yankees lineup that only registered a .232 batting average against lefties in 2024.

On the other side, Max Fried gets the ball in his first start in New York, and he has great career numbers against Christian Yelich, Rhys Hoskins and the rest of Milwaukee’s top of the order. All things considered, let’s back both starters to get off to a quick start on Saturday.
