I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After hitting last night’s Game 4 NRFI, we’re out to hit our 3rd in a row tonight. It’s safe to say the 2022 World Series has been a rollercoaster ride thus far. Truthfully, the Phillies have made this entire postseason full of ups and downs. With that in mind, predicting sides can be rather difficult. Instead, we can predict if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not. That helps us isolate a much more specific play to eliminate many of the variables that come with a 3-hour long game. We’ve broken down tonight’s Game 5 matchup so that you can profit in just about 15 minutes. Along with this early play, be sure to check out our MLB analysis for all of the upcoming World Series action.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bet for today’s 2022 World Series Game 5.

Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies: YRFI (+110)

Phillies fans were excited about the rain postponement of Game 3. That’s because it allowed them to better use their starting rotation, which includes having Zack Wheeler on full rest. However, he won’t be on the mound tonight. Instead, it will be Noah Syndergaard, who was originally scheduled to start Game 3. As for the Astros, they will indeed have their ace, Justin Verlander, back on the mound. While that may sound like we should see a clean 1st inning, he has yet to impress in the World Series.

That also doesn’t mean just this 2022 World Series either. Verlander is 0-6 with a 6.07 ERA in 8 World Series appearances. The Phillies have already proven they can get to him, as they lit him up for 5 runs on their way to their epic comeback in Game 1. As for Syndergaard, he faced the Astros back in July when he was still with the Los Angeles Angels. You guessed it — he allowed 2 runs in the 1st inning to Houston.

The Astros have gotten out to quick starts in 3 of the 4 games thus far, including 3 runs in the 1st inning of Game 2. Everything has been back and forth so far in this series, so let’s lean into that trend while we hopefully watch at least a run being scored in the 1st frame tonight.
