Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies: YRFI (-105)
We had a scoreless first frame in Game 1 between Justin Verlander and Aaron Nola, but the Astros struck early in Game 2 with 3 runs in the first against Zack Wheeler. I think the trend of scoring early will continue in Game 3 as Lance McCullers Jr. will face Noah Syndergaard. Neither starter was excellent in the opening frame during the regular season, and that’s especially true for Syndergaard. He had a 6.09 ERA and allowed opponents to hit for a .269 average in the first inning in 24 starts. One of his final starts in an Angels uniform was against the Astros, and Houston jumped on Thor early as they scored 2 runs in the first inning.
Philadelphia has been scoring early throughout the postseason, and they have an excellent chance to continue that trend against McCullers. The Houston starter was hit hard early in the Conference Series as the Yankees scored 2 runs against McCullers in the opening frame. He seemed shaky in the first inning against the Yankees as nerves might have gotten to him, and since this is his first World Series start since 2017, we could see another quick start for the Phillies. I expect at least one team to score in the first inning, so take YRFI in Game 3.
