The 2022 MLB season rolls on and we have another full slate of games on Thursday. There are a number of intriguing matchups, including this AL clash between the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels starting at 7:10 pm ET.
What better way to celebrate this Thursday matchup than by betting a same game parlay? We also have thoughts on the side and total, which you can find out in our full game preview.
LA Angels -1.5 (+158)
Mike Trout to record 2+ total bases (+110)
Randy Arozarena to record a hit (-135)
Parlay odds: +837
We have come up with a 3-leg parlay, which would pay out at over 8/1 odds with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break down each leg.
LA Angels -1.5 (+158)
To start off this same game parlay we have the LA Angels on the run line. While the Angels have underperformed in the past, this year appears to be different. They are 21-11 this season and are clicking at the plate and on the mound. Everything seems to be coming together for a team that has failed under the weight of expectations in the past. A large part of their success has been the continued stellar play of Shohei Ohtani. He is delivering at the plate, while putting up some of his best numbers as an MLB pitcher. He’ll get the start on Wednesday as LA looks for the sweep at home.
The Rays have been predictably solid this season, but they have run into a buzzsaw in the Angels. Tampa Bay has been outscored by a 23-3 margin through the first 2 games of the series, including getting no-hit on Tuesday. The Rays will turn to Shane McClanahan to stop the bleeding, but the Tampa Bay ace hasn’t face an offense like that of the Halos in 2022. McClanahan’s best performances thus far have come against the likes of the Orioles, Cubs and Mariners. Against a hot Angels team that has been dominant at home, expect McClanahan to struggle in the series finale. Los Angeles should complete the sweep by at least 2 runs.
Mike Trout to record 2+ total bases (+115)
At this stage in his career, Mike Trout is boringly predictable. But that’s great for bettors who are looking to back Trout. The outfielder is a hit machine, racking up 32 hits in 95 at bats — including 9 home runs. Trout already has 5 hits and 6 RBIs this series, and nothing I’ve seen has dissuaded me from backing him on Wednesday. His slugging percentage is .726 in 2022, meaning that his success rate for extra base hits is high once he makes contact. Hitting at the top of the order, the Angels talisman should get at least 4 chances to cash this leg.
For whatever reason, Trout’s total bases prop is still mis-priced in the market. This is a number that he has consistently hit this season, and the best player in baseball has been on a tear of late. At plus money, I have no issue with banking on Trout to stay hot.
Randy Arozarena to record a hit (-135)
As a rule, including legs from both teams always increases your odds in a same game parlay. But I don’t think Randy Arozarena having success conflicts with the Angels picking up a win. Arozarena got off to a terrible start but has since raised his level, collecting 12 hits in his last 10 games. The outfielder has seemingly found his 2021 form, and we don’t even need a great performance from him to cash this final leg. Arozarena is expected to get at least 4 at-bats on Wednesday, and with hits in 8 of his last 9 games I’m confident in backing him to deliver.
