Rockies -2.5 (+235) *alt run line
The Rockies and Nationals have split the first 2 games of this series, and the rubber match will take place at Coors Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Rockies have typically been more comfortable in their own ballpark, posting a record of 47-33 at home this season. On the other side, the Nationals have been tough to back on the road. Washington enters this contest with a 30-50 road record. This will be Colorado’s last home game of the season, and they will want to give their fans something to cheer about.
Paolo Espino gets the starts for the visitors. The Nationals are just 6-12 in his 18 starts on the year. The Washington right-hander tossed 5.2 scoreless innings against the Rockies on September 19, but that was at Nationals Park. Facing them at Coors Field could be a tougher challenge. Colorado’s team batting average goes from .215 on the road to .278 at home. In addition, their team OPS goes from .638 to .812. Their consistent offensive success at home presents some confidence in backing the Rockies -2.5 on an alternate run line.
Trevor Story to hit a home run (+280)
Story is in the final year of a two-year, $27.5 million contract with the Rockies. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. This could possibly be his last game at Coors Field as a member of the Rockies. Story began his career in Colorado by hitting home runs in each of his first 6 games. Does he have some more magic in him?
Story is seeing the ball well right now. He is 3-for-7 with 2 walks in the first 2 games of this series, and one of those hits was a massive 475-foot home run in last night’s 3-1 win. In addition, he has been a better hitter at home throughout the course of this season. His batting average goes from .206 on the road to .286 at home, and his OPS goes from .729 to .862. It is a day game at Coors Field, and the conditions appear to be ideal for hitters. The stars could be aligning just right for Story to launch another long ball this afternoon.
