The 2021 MLB season is wrapping up and the playoffs are rapidly approaching. We have a nice slate on Wednesday, with plenty of opportunities for value. One of the best games is this NL West showdown as the San Francisco Giants take on the San Diego Padres. It will be broadcasted wide by ESPN. What better way to make this nationally televised game even more exciting than by betting a same game parlay?
We of course also have thoughts on the side and total for each of today’s matchup, which you can view in our MLB picks tab.
San Francisco Giants -3.5 (+220)
Vince Velasquez over 4.5 strikeouts (+128)
Same Game Parlay odds: +1074
We have a simple 2-leg parlay which pays out north of 10/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it down:
San Francisco Giants -3.5 (+220)
I don’t see how anybody could want a piece of the Padres right now. San Diego is an absolute dumpster fire as its season rapidly circles the drain. The Padres appear to be falling apart, as they have lost nine of 11 games amidst a barrage of bad press. San Diego no longer really has anything to play for, while the Giants are locked in a tight battle for first place in the NL West. The Giants have also been a great road team all season, with a 49-27 record on the highway.
San Francisco is 12-3 in its last 15 overall. It also doesn’t hurt that the Padres are starting the recently acquired Vince Velasquez. The former Phillies pitcher has been mostly awful this season, entering with a 6.09 ERA. The Giants should cruise to cover the first leg of this same game parlay.
Vince Velasquez over 4.5 strikeouts (+128)
We get a big odds boost by combining this with the first leg of our same game parlay, but I don’t think it conflicts much. Velasquez hasn’t been very good this year, but he’s a decent strikeout pitcher. He’s averaging more than one per inning this season, so if we can get five innings from him I think we’ll cash this. Even when doing damage, the Giants’ offense can still strikeout a lot. In fact, it might surprise you to learn that San Francisco has the seventh-most strikeouts of any team in the league this year. Something like 5.0 innings from Velasquez while giving up four runs and striking out five feels like a very likely outcome. All we need is a decent strikeout game from Velasquez and a bad performance from San Diego’s offense to cash this same game parlay, and we’re getting better than 10/1.
