Yesterday was an exciting day in baseball as the summer heat (and possibly juiced balls?!) was letting the balls fly out of the ballpark all around the country. All 30 teams are back in action today, but we’re in for a special treat because we have not one, but TWO doubleheaders. With 17 games on today, let’s dive into my MLB parlay picks that pays out at almost 10/1 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. You can also find out our MLB picks for today’s big matchups.

Orioles -1.5 (+118)

Guardians -1.5 (+116)

Royals ML (+132)

Baltimore Orioles -1.5 over Chicago Cubs (+118)

Shota Imanaga had one of the best starts to a Major League Baseball career in history. The Japanese ace had a 0.84 ERA after his first 9 outings and looked like the steal of the offseason. However, teams are starting to figure out how to hit the lefty and it’s been a difficult last few weeks for Imanaga. During his first 9 starts when he sported an ERA below 1, the southpaw limited hitters to a .200 batting average and .220 xBA while striking out 28% of the hitters he faced. But in his 7 starts since, Imanaga has a 6.51 ERA and has allowed a .295 batting average, a .284 xBA and a 5% home run rate. He will be going up against Corbin Burnes, who has put together a Cy Young-caliber campaign with a 2.32 ERA and 3.00 xERA in 18 starts. Burnes was fantastic last month with a 4-1 record and a 2.12 ERA, so I’m backing the veteran pitcher and better lineup.

Cleveland Guardians -1.5 over Detroit Tigers (+116)

Looking at the final score of last night’s game, you might think the game was a nail-biter from the first pitch to the last. However, the first half of the game was a blowout. The Guardians went up 6-0 and were in complete control of the game until a few well-timed home runs ruined Cleveland’s big lead. The Guardians were able to come away with the win in extra innings which means they could take the series lead with a win tonight.

Cleveland will send Tanner Bibee to the hill for his 19th start of the year, but it’s been his last 8 starts or so that have been worth talking about. Bibee had a rough first month of the season and began to turn it around at the end of May, which led to him having a 2.86 ERA in June. Since June 1, Bibee has limited hitters to a .222 batting average, a .203 xBA and a 34% strikeout rate. Between Bibee and the dangerous Cleveland lineup, I’m taking the Guardians to earn the win tonight comfortably.

Kansas City Royals ML over St. Louis Cardinals (+132)

An incredible start to the season has been dampened by a rough last few weeks for the Royals. The offense has gone cold and the bullpen has been beaten up, which are 2 areas the Royals will look to improve on before the trade deadline. But for tonight, Kansas City will take on veteran arm Sonny Gray. Gray had a phenomenal start to the year but has started to show some signs of slowing down in the last few weeks. In just his last 2 starts against the Reds and Nationals, Gray allowed 11 runs and 15 hits in 9.1 innings. And looking even further back, Gray has allowed at least 3 runs in 4 of his last 7 starts.

As for his counterpart, Michael Wacha is having a fantastic stretch on the mound. He’s allowed 1 earned run or less in 3 straight starts and 2 earned runs or less in 8 consecutive outings. In that 8-outing span, Wacha has held hitters to a .189 batting average, a .223 xBA and just a 29% hard-hit rate. I’m taking the more consistent pitcher and backing the Royals to complete the upset to round off today’s MLB parlay picks.
