Wednesday brings a great bridge over the hump of the week thanks to another great night of Major League Baseball. Teams continue to trade proverbial punches in the division and wild card playoff races. With just a few weeks left in the season, every night will have something to watch for and bring the intensity. The first pitch of the day is at 12:35 pm ET and the last game starts more than 9 hours later. We’re in store for a heck of a Wednesday in MLB.

Minnesota Twins -1.5 over Cleveland Guardians (+130)

The Twins have just bullied the Guardians in this series. Minnesota is going for the sweep after taking the first two games on Monday and Tuesday by a combined score of 28-9. Those were wins of 20-6 and 8-3. That is just a bludgeoning. With Tuesday’s win, the Twins have now won 4 out of their last 5 games while the Guardians are 2-5 in their last 7 games.

Minnesota is all but a formality to win the AL Central at this point, but they will keep their foot on the gas to try to peak entering the playoffs. This Twins team is scoring runs at a ridiculous clip lately. Obviously, the 20-run outburst is an outlier. But they have scored 5+ in runs in 6 of their prior 8 games excluding that huge performance. Minnesota is scoring at a clip that Cleveland is struggling to keep up with. If the Twins can keep producing, the Guardians will likely be in trouble once again.

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 over San Diego Padres (+142)

The Phillies and Padres have trended in different directions. In the past two weeks, the Phillies are 9-4 entering Tuesday’s matchup while the Padres are 6-8 during that span. San Diego is all but eliminated from the playoffs while the Phillies are looking good to take the top wild-card spot. Philadelphia has had a great second half and the trajectory of their season has been very similar to last year, when they competed in the World Series.

Philadelphia will face Michael Wacha, who has actually been fantastic for San Diego. Fortunately for the Phillies, they will have Zack Wheeler on the mound. Wheeler has proven to be one of the more reliable pitchers in baseball and will face a very volatile team in San Diego. It has been two months and 10 starts since Wheeler has not gone 6 innings. In 27 starts this season, he has failed to go 6 innings just 7 times and 5 of those times were at least 5 innings. Wheeler always gives his team the chance to win and Wednesday should be no different against this struggling Padres lineup.

Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers Under 8.5 (-108)

Before the season, anyone who had the Astros and Rangers battling for first place in the AL West in a head-to-head series in September was either crazy or lying. Anyone who had that game being started by Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer would have been even crazier considering those guys were in the rotation of a Mets team projected to make a deep playoff run. All of the above craziness illustrates the intensity this game should bring.

In-state rivals battling for a division lead late in the regular season with a couple of future Hall of Famers on the mound has all the makings of a pitchers’ duel. Anytime Scherzer and Verlander are on the mound, the under has a good chance, let alone in a game featuring them both. Pure pitching matchup and pedigree looks great for the under in this one. Both pitchers have had solid starts recently and should have a chip on their shoulder.
