Houston Astros -1.5 over Cincinnati Reds (+116)

Spencer Arrighetti has not only been one of the best rookies but he’s also been one of the best pitchers in the league in the last month or so. After a rough start to his MLB career, Arrighetti was spectacular in August. He posted a 1.95 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP in 5 starts and limited hitters to a .168 batting average and a .187 xBA. Arrighetti has also recorded an impressive 38% strikeout rate in his last 5 starts which demonstrates his swing-and-miss stuff has drastically improved from the beginning of the season.

Arrighetti’s counterpart will be Nick Martinez, who has bounced between the bullpen and starting rotation this year. Between 11 starts and 26 relief appearances, he has a 3.77 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP which has made him one of the more reliable arms that Cincinnati has. However, since being moved back into the rotation last month, it’s been a tough few weeks for Martinez. He’s allowed 15 runs, 26 hits and 6 home runs in his last 4 starts. I’m backing the better pitcher, offense, and bullpen for a multi-run win to start today’s MLB parlay picks.

New York Mets ML over Boston Red Sox (-106)

The Red Sox are in a complete freefall right now. Boston had a 50% chance of making the postseason at the all-star break but had a difficult second-half schedule which has proved to be true. The Sox have lost 4 straight and 9 of their last 12 games and have slowly begun to slip out of the Wild Card race. Pitching used to be the primary problem for the Red Sox, but lately it’s been the offense too since their lineup has scored 2 runs or less in 5 of their last 6 games.

On the mound looking to end the skid for Boston is Tanner Houck, who has been the most reliable arm all year long. It’s been a great season for Houck, who has stepped into the role of an ace with Chris Sale gone, but this is by far the most innings he’s pitched in a season and he might be showing some fatigue. The right-hander had a 4.29 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP to go along with a .279 xBA in 6 starts last month. Meanwhile, the Mets have taken full advantage of Boston’s downfall and have dominated this series so far. Expect that to continue tonight.

Cleveland Guardians ML over Kansas City Royals (+116)

Kansas City got a tough break a week ago, learning that Vinnie Pasquantino broke his thumb and is done for the year. The rising star was in the midst of a career year and was a critical part of the Royals offense, which has slowly gotten worse in the last few games. In the 5 games without Pasquantino, the Royals have scored 1, 2, 2, 2 and 2 runs. It’s clear that his absence is taking a toll on the production, which creates value on the Guardians tonight since Cleveland is the underdog.

On the mound for Cleveland is Ben Lively, who owns a 3.92 ERA this season and performed well in his only start against the Royals earlier this year. He went 6 innings and surrendered just 2 runs and 6 hits with 5 strikeouts. If he can have an outing similar to that one, he will put the Guardians in a great position to win since the Cleveland lineup has been red-hot recently. The Guardians have scored 7, 10, 0, 6, 4 and 7 runs in their last 6 games which gives me the confidence they will outscore Kansas City tonight and deliver another MLB parlay win for us.
