The 2022 MLB season is officially in full swing and we have another full slate on Tuesday. There are a bunch of interesting matchups, including this NL West rivalry game between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. It should be a great one, televised nationally by TBS.
What better way to celebrate this weekend showdown than by betting a same game parlay? We also have thoughts on the side and total, which you can find out in our full game preview.
San Francisco Giants -2.5 alt run line (+390)
Carlos Rodon to record 9+ strikeouts (+162)
Parlay odds: +804
We’ve got a two-leg parlay here, one which pays out just north of 8/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it down:
San Francisco Giants -2.5 alt run line (+390)
To start off this same game parlay we have the Giants on an alternate run line. I’ll admit I thought San Francisco’s success last season was a bit of a fluke, but so far they’ve been proving myself and everyone else wrong once again. The Giants have started off 14-8, and Carlos Rodon has been a big reason why. Rodon has a 1.17 ERA through four starts, and the Giants have won his past three outings by a combined score of 17-5. Each of those victories came by at least three runs.
Three of San Francisco’s last four wins overall have come by at least six runs, so they’ve clearly got the offensive upside necessary to cover an alt line like this. Many people expected the Dodgers to be dominant this season, but their vaunted lineup has looked far from unstoppable so far.
Some of their key guys are really struggling, as Justin Turner is hitting .187 with a .498 OPS while Max Muncy is batting an even worse .136. Freddie Freeman is the only player in the lineup with an OPS above .800, which isn’t what anybody saw coming at the beginning of the season.
Carlos Rodon to record 9+ strikeouts (+162)
This correlates nicely with the first leg of our same game parlay. If Rodon is dealing on the mound, then the Giants definitely have a much better chance of covering the -2.5 alt run line. And Rodon has been striking out batters at an absolutely absurd rate so far. He has the most punch-outs of any pitcher in the majors who has only made four starts, and he’s gotten to at least nine in three of those four outings.
In the only one where he didn’t, he still struck out eight in only five innings. In his first start of the season he only recorded 15 outs, and a whopping 12 of them were strikeouts. He’s picked up right where he left off last season, when he had 185 strikeouts in 132 and 2/3 innings. Rodon is also a lefty, and the Dodgers have struggled against southpaws this season.
Against right-handers Los Angeles’ team OPS is .729, and that drops to .637 against lefties. They’ve also been striking out at a significantly higher rate against lefties.
