Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (-105) vs Pittsburgh Pirates

The Brewers have been played well, but they can’t afford to take their foot off the gas as they have just a 2.5-game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central. That is not exactly a good cushion with around a month’s worth of baseball remaining. The Brewers not only want to win the division, they want to make sure they peak at the right time entering the postseason. Despite the soft matchup, the Brewers should not mail it in against the Pirates.

They have won 11 of their last 15 games and 8 of their last 12 against Pittsburgh. The Pirates have won 6 of their last 7 games, but the Royals and Cardinals accounted for 5 of those wins. Milwaukee won a 3-game series against a rolling Philadelphia team over the weekend but then dropped the series opener against Pittsburgh. Look for the Brewers to play with added urgency today and run up the score.

Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (+102) vs Los Angeles Angels

The Orioles are another division leader with a soft matchup. Similar to Milwaukee, their division lead is not comfortable and they have even better teams nipping at their heels in the strong AL East. Fortunately for the Orioles, they continue to play very good baseball. They are visiting an Angels team who have dropped 6 of their last 7 games including a sweep at the hands of the A’s. Even if they’re in a low gear, the O’s should should still win big.

The Orioles are 12-4 since August 18 and have been able to keep winning despite losing their Cy Young candidate closer Felix Bautista. This is a resilient young team that has a very good chance to finish atop the American League and lock in home-field advantage for the playoffs. With the Rays putting pressure on the Orioles, Baltimore should come out hungry to win convincingly.

Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 & game total over 8.5 (+180) vs Oakland A’s

This time of year, every series is a big series for the Blue Jays. They took 2 out of 3 against Colorado, now they play Oakland, and then they will go to Kansas City before a tough last 3 weeks of the season. Toronto is just a half-game back of a playoff spot. The Jays won the first game of this series and will play with urgency to stay in the win column and creep into the playoff picture.

The over has been trending for both of these teams. The total has gone over in 8 of the Blue Jays’ last 9 games, and has cashed in 6 of their last 8 on the road. The over has also hit in 4 out of Oakland’s last 5 games and in 8 of their last 10 at home. Both teams have both scored and allowed runs in bunches lately which has led to the high totals. This matchup and the trends look great for another over.
