Boston Red Sox -1.5 (+146) over Tampa Bay Rays

Nick Pivetta had a terrible first month of the season, but he’s been a different pitcher since April. The right-hander posted an 8.27 ERA in April and then flipped a switch as he entered May. He was 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA in May and followed that by going 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA in June. He has allowed more than 3 earned runs only once since April 20, so the Canadian has found his rhythm.

Pivetta will be backed up by a Boston offense that had a bad series against the Cubs but still ranks 1st in batting average and 6th in OPS in the last 15 days. The Red Sox have scored at least 4 runs in 5 of their last 6 games and have the advantage of playing at home. Boston has the second-highest batting average when playing in its home park. Expect a big win for the Red Sox behind Pivetta.

St. Louis Cardinals ML (+126) over Atlanta Braves

Ian Anderson has got by this season by facing a lot of below-average offenses, but no longer. He faced the Dodgers and Phillies in his last 2 starts and allowed 11 runs on 13 hits and 5 walks in just 6 innings. Anderson will face the Cardinals tonight and the St. Louis offense is not an easy lineup to get through. In their previous series against the Phillies, the Cardinals hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs in one inning which demonstrates how powerful their lineup is.

Andre Pallante has been spectacular since being moved to the starting rotation. In 5 starts, he has a 2.57 ERA and has limited opponents to a .238 batting average. Pallante will be backed by a Cardinals bullpen that ranks 5th in ERA and 6th in FIP in the last 2 weeks. The Cardinals have all the pieces to pull off the upset.

Arizona Diamondbacks ML (+146) over San Francisco Giants

It may surprise you, but the Diamondbacks and the Giants are having fairly similar seasons. Arizona is just 5 games back of San Francisco in the standings and they are gaining ground as the Giants have lost 5 games in a row. The Diamondbacks’ offense has caught fire in the last week as they averaged 6.71 runs per game in their last 7 games and rank 9th in slugging percentage and OPS in that period. Arizona’s lineup may not be headlined by superstars, but they have a balanced lineup that has come alive recently.

The Giants are 2-8 in their last 10 games and are having trouble staying relevant in the NL West. They have averaged just 3.6 runs per game in their last 10 games and are struggling to produce in the bottom half of their lineup. This is a good time to catch the Giants on a skid, so back Arizona to complete the upset.
