Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+176) over Atlanta Braves

Zack Wheeler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, but he’s been a different beast when he’s at home. Wheeler enters this matchup with a 2.77 ERA, but it drops to 1.49 when he’s pitching in Philadelphia. At home, opponents are 28-for-152 (.184) against the Phillies’ ace which demonstrates his dominance on his home turf. The Phillies are 3-0 in Wheeler’s last 3 starts at home and they have an average winning margin of 4 runs in those 3 games.

Wheeler has faced the Braves once this season and threw 6.2 innings and surrendered 2 runs on 8 hits with a season-high 10 strikeouts. That start was in Atlanta which is important since Wheeler’s ERA on the road is north of 4, dramatically worse than his ERA at Citizens Bank Park. The Braves recently lost Ozzie Albies to injury and although their lineup is deep, Wheeler on the mound in Philadelphia at plus odds is hard to pass up.

Boston Red Sox ML (+122) over Toronto Blue Jays

The Red Sox had won 7 games in a row prior to their defeat to the Blue Jays last night, but should be able to get some revenge on Tuesday. Boston has moved into second place in the AL East and are one of the hottest teams in June. For game two of the series in Toronto, the Red Sox will start Michael Wacha who has been an incredible addition to the Boston starting rotation. Wacha comes into this matchup with a 2.34 ERA and has allowed 2 earned runs or less in four of his five recent starts.

The Toronto offense is good, but they’ve been streaky in June. They have scored 4 runs or less in 5 of their last 10 games, and 6 runs or more in the other 5 games during that span. Wacha and the strong Boston bullpen should be able to pull off the upset in Toronto on Tuesday night.

Houston Astros ML (-116) over New York Mets

Houston split their recent series with the Yankees, although they should have won 3 out of 4 if it wasn’t for their 9th-inning downfall in game one of the series. Regardless, the Astros are hot right now having faced some of the best pitchers in the league as well as the best lineup in baseball. For Tuesday night’s game, Houston will start Framber Valdez, who has been a workhorse this season. He has completed at least 6 innings of work in 11 consecutive starts. In that 11-start span, he has not surrendered more than 3 earned runs which has transformed him into one of Houston’s most reliable starters.

The Astros will face Carlos Carrasco who was shelled by Houston in his last start. He allowed 5 runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings which gives me the confidence that Houston figured him out early and they can do it again. Go with the Astros.
