Thursdays often provide a smaller slate in the MLB as it is usually a day in which series end and teams travel to their next destination. However, that does not mean we cannot take advantage of the market. With fewer games, we can take a deeper dive into a specific game. Let’s do just that with the Yankees heading to the south side of Chicago to take on the White Sox. Along with this same game parlay, be sure to check out our thoughts on the side and total.
Chicago White Sox -1.5 (+132)
Tim Anderson over 1.5 total bases (+100)
Jose Abreu over 1.5 total bases (+130)
Parlay odds: +730
Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our better than 7/1 same game parlay:
Chicago White Sox -1.5 (+132) over New York Yankees
Both the Yankees and White Sox had pleasant days on Wednesday, but for different reasons. New York was able to take down a divisional foe in the Blue Jays, and Chicago had an unexpected rest day. Although no postponements due to Covid are good news, at least it did not affect the Sox as well. It may cause hesitation to back Chicago having seen their struggles to begin this season; however, they’ve found their groove recently and have won 7 of their last 8.
The Yankees calling up starter Luis Gil should also benefit the Sox. He is only being called up as a 6th starter due to New York having multiple postponements recently, forcing an impromptu doubleheader with the Rangers. Gil knowing he is going right back down to Triple-A after this start may affect his mentality. Regardless, he has not done well in the minors thus far, allowing 19 runs in 17 innings pitched. Despite still missing some key pieces, the Sox have been playing well and would be looking for 9 straight wins had the Guardians not had an improbable comeback on Monday. With Chicago having had a rest day and the Yankees having to travel into town, back the Sox to continue their new winning streak.

Tim Anderson over 1.5 total bases (+100)
With an inexperienced Gil taking the mound for the Yankees, there is not any prior history against the White Sox hitters to analyze. Therefore, the best way to take advantage of the youngster is with a reliable, proven bat. Gil has already been struggling in Triple-A, and Tim Anderson can hit even the best pitchers in the big leagues. He’s in the top-25 in total bases with 54 and would be much higher based on recent performances rather than the slow start to the season. He’s the White Sox leadoff man for a reason; he is a reliable, contact hitter. Although Chicago was postponed on Wednesday, he had 3 hits on Tuesday. Anderson also has the speed to stretch would-be singles into doubles. That would negate the need for multiple hits and allow us to cash this prop off quickly in the 1st inning.
Jose Abreu over 1.5 total bases (+130)
We’re going to continue focusing on White Sox hitters because, well, not much should be expected from Gil. It’s also worth noting that it is Dylan Cease on the mound for the Sox. Cease has been fantastic so far, recording at least 8 strikeouts in 4 of his 5 starts. In other words, it’s not as good a matchup for Yankees hitters. As for Abreu, he is finding his swing after a slow start to 2022. He ended the 2021 season as one of the best with 277 total bases and will need to continue to get hot if he wants to match that mark. This game being played in Chicago will also be a boost to Abreu’s already-great power. His home stadium of Guaranteed Rate Field ranks 3rd in the league for home runs. Whether a long bomb or an extra-base hit, Abreu should come through with multiple bases.
