Let’s get into our mega parlay for Thursday and break down each of the legs one by one.
San Francisco Giants F5 ML over Milwaukee Brewers (Game 1) (+158)
Corbin Burnes has not been his normal self recently, and we can capitalize on that in this spot. After having an incredible 2.14 ERA in the first half of the season, Burnes has a 5.01 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP in the second half of the year. In his last 2 outings against the Diamondbacks and Pirates, the ace has allowed 10 runs and 15 hits in 11.2 innings. He’s been struggling in the first half of games and has forced the strong Milwaukee bullpen to provide several innings of relief. But to avoid the Brewers’ relievers, the first half money line is the way to go. The Giants have elected to do a bullpen game with Scott Alexander to be the opener, which means Milwaukee likely will never get to see a pitcher three times. It’s a risk betting against Burnes, but it comes with great reward.

Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies under 5.5 (+172)
In 4 starts against the Phillies this season, Sandy Alcantara has a 3.03 ERA in 29.2 innings. He’s allowed just a .232 batting average to the Phillies hitters and has shown that he can limit the top-heavy Philadelphia lineup. In those 4 starts, the games have finished with 7, 5, 3, and 7 runs — all low-scoring. With most pitchers, I would be worried that Alcantara is facing an offense for the 5th time this season since it means the Phillies have experience facing him, but Alcantara is the NL Cy Young favorite for a reason. He holds a .215 xBA and a 2.97 xERA through 190.2 innings, and I don’t see negative regression coming from the ace on Thursday.
I’m confident Alcantara will limit the Phillies’ offense, and I’m even more confident the Marlins lineup will continue to be a terrible offense. They’ve scored 3 runs or less in 10 consecutive games and rank 30th in batting average, OBP, SLG percentage and OPS since the all-star break. From the first pitch to the last, expect a low-scoring game.

Minnesota Twins ML over New York Yankees (+120)
Sonny Gray has been brilliant since the all-star break. He has a 2.16 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and has become Minnesota’s most reliable starter. Opponents are hitting just .200 against him in the second half of the season, and this is a bit of a revenge spot for Gray. He called Yankee Stadium home for a season and a half before the Yankees decided to move on from him, so there will be a chip on his shoulder for this start. As for the New York offense, his name is Aaron Judge. The Yankees will be missing Andrew Benintendi, DJ LeMahieu, Josh Donaldson and possibly Giancarlo Stanton. Their offense is made up of several Triple-A players trying to fill the holes, and this seems like a great spot for the Twins to steal one.
