This week has brought more movement in the MLB standings and should continue to do so once the dust settles from Thursday’s games. There is a modest 9-game slate in the MLB but should be a nice bridge to Friday considering there will be baseball on from 1:05 pm ET through to midnight.

Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 vs Colorado Rockies (-105)

The Rays have won 3 consecutive games including the first couple in this series. With 8 wins in their last 11 games, Tampa Bay has extended its lead in the wild-card race and is 2 games back of 1st place in the AL East. After getting caught in the division and facing a deficit, this solid run came at a good time for the Rays. They beat the Rockies by a combined score of 18-9 in the first 2 games of this series and look poised to complete a sweep today.

The Rockies have now lost 3 straight games by a combined 28-14 and are 3-10 in their last 13 games. They have also dropped their last 7 road games. The Rockies are the worst team in the NL and it is not particularly close. The next closest team to them in the cellar is 7 games ahead and the Rays should roll in this one.

Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros over 9 (-110)

This is the finale of a 4-game series between the Red Sox and Astros. The over has hit in each of the first 3 games and with authority. There have been 35 total runs scored in this series for an average of 11.67 runs per game. This game has a decent pitching matchup, but so did the other 3 games. High totals have been rolling for both teams lately and the trends have clashed for even more overs in this series.

The over has hit in Boston’s last 7 games and in 10 of their last 12 games on the road. The total has also gone over in Houston’s last 5 games and in 5 of their last 6 at home. In their respective last 10 games, the over is a combined 14-6. Overs trends do not appear to be changing any time soon for these teams.

Minnesota Twins win and game total under 8.5 vs Texas Rangers (+225)

The Rangers have hit a wall at a very inopportune time in the season. They enter Thursday having lost 6 consecutive games and have seen their division lead dwindle to 1 game. The Twins are far from a juggernaut. But they are not a pushover either. Minnesota will look to capitalize on a struggling opponent and Texas will have their hands full to try to break out of this losing streak. The Rangers will have to try to solve Pablo Lopez, which has been difficult for teams to do for months now.

Another reason the Twins have the edge is the same reason the under has appeal — Lopez getting the start for Minnesota. Lopez has been stellar since June and now faces a Rangers team that is struggling to produce runs. The under has hit in 12 of the Rangers’ last 18 games and the Twins do not have a the most productive offense themselves. This one has the makings of a low total.
