Today is a very busy day in the sports world with Week 2 of the NFL season continuing as well as a massive MLB slate. There is so much to get into, so here’s my MLB mega parlay for today.
Padres ML (-118)
Diamondbacks -1.5 (+128)
Braves -1.5 (+200)
Parlay odds: +1163
San Diego Padres ML (-118) over San Francisco Giants
Martin Perez returns to the rotation after he and his wife celebrated having a child this week. The momentous occasion also has Perez on extended rest, something that is crucial down the stretch. Perez has been a fantastic trade-deadline pickup for the Padres as they were in the market for a backend starter and got a lefty ace instead. He was having a mediocre year for the Pirates which allowed San Diego to get the lefty at a cheap price, and he’s been fantastic with a 2-0 record and a 2.84 ERA in 7 starts for his new team. He’s limited hitters to a fantastic .236 batting average with a 21% strikeout rate since joining the Padres rotation and is coming off a scoreless outing against the Tigers last week. If the Padres lineup can keep the bats rolling from last night, they should be able to close out the series with a win.
Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5 (+128) over Milwaukee Brewers
Last night’s game turned into a softball score between these teams. They combined for 23 runs and 30 hits as pitching was terrible from the first pitch to the last. However, that shouldn’t be the case tonight. Zac Gallen has been unreal lately as he’s thrown back-to-back shutouts against the Giants and Rangers in his last 2 starts. He’s given up just 2 hits while recording 15 strikeouts, so his swing and miss stuff is back and better than ever. The Brewers are countering Gallen with DL Hall, a lefty that was acquired in the blockbuster trade for Corbin Burnes in the offseason. Hall has bounced between the bullpen, starting rotation, and Minor Leagues in 2024 and will be making just his 7th start in the MLB this season. He’s in for a tough matchup since the Diamondbacks have mashed left-handed pitching this year. Take the Snakes to win big tonight.
Atlanta Braves -1.5 (+200) over Los Angeles Dodgers
Walker Buehler has not been the same pitcher this season. He joined the Dodgers rotation in May after rehabbing in Triple-A for the first month of the season and hasn’t found his rhythm in the big leagues yet. He owns a 1-5 record with a 5.95 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP in 13 starts and his advanced metrics might be even worse. Buehler ranks in the 7th percentile in xERA, 8th percentile in xBA, 5th percentile in whiff rate, and 13th percentile in strikeout rate, among many other things. And tonight, he will face a Braves offense that has seen plenty of Buehler in their careers. I’m expecting for Atlanta to get a few off of Buehler which should put Charlie Morton in a good position to get the win. Morton has surrendered just 3 runs and 11 hits in 2 starts this month and is by far the more reliable starter in this matchup.
