The week in Major League Baseball continues with a modest 11-game slate on Thursday. There are 6 afternoon contests, as teams wrap up series before heading out on the road to begin new ones. The schedule includes Giants vs Brewers, Padres vs Cardinals, Mets vs Diamondbacks, Braves vs Phillies, Royals vs Astros and Orioles vs Dodgers. Let’s dive into my MLB parlay picks for today, while you can also find out our MLB picks for the big matchups on Thursday, August 29.
Athletics ML (+114)
Braves ML (+130)
Dodgers -1.5 (+134)
MLB parlay odds: +1052
For this MLB parlay, I am going with 1 favorite on the run line and 2 underdogs on the money line. Let’s break down each of the 3 legs.

Oakland Athletics ML over Cincinnati Reds (+114)
Break up the A’s! Not only have they won 3 in a row heading into Thursday’s game against Cincinnati, but they also boast an improbable 21-14 record since the all-star break. Oakland has taken the first 2 contests of this series, prevailing 5-4 in the opener and then 9-6 on Wednesday. The visitors are throwing a bullpen game in this one and should be able to take care of business against a reeling Reds squad. Cincy has dropped 3 straight, 5 of 6 and 9 of 12. Its skid will likely continue with a rookie on the mound making just his third major-league appearance. Julian Aguiar has been solid so far, but to say that he is unproven would be an understatement. I love Oakland as an underdog to open today’s MLB parlay picks.
Atlanta Braves ML over Philadelphia Phillies (+130)
Once running away with the NL East, the Phillies suddenly find themselves in what has turned out to be a crucial 4-game series against the Braves. An ice-cold Philly club has seen its lead dwindle to 5 games even though Atlanta has never really gotten hot this summer – at least until a 3-game sweep of Minnesota earlier this week. Charlie Morton is toeing the rubber for the visitors on Thursday night. Morton has had his ups and downs this season, but in his last 3 starts the veteran is 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA. The Phillies are countering with Cristopher Sanchez, who is a modest 9-9 with a 3.51 ERA. In Sanchez’s career against ATL he is 0-3 with a 4.66 ERA. With Atlanta’s bats finally showing signs of life and the pressure all on Philly, give me the upset at well into plus money.

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 over Baltimore Orioles (+134)
Despite a myriad of pitching injuries, the Dodgers have seemed to find their stride as they try to separate themselves from Arizona and San Diego in the NL West. Head coach Dave Roberts’ team has won 7 of its last 9 contests. As usual, it’s thanks in large part to Shohei Ohtani – who has homered in 3 of the past 5 games and has delivered multi-hit performances in a whopping 5 of the past 7. He has 10 homers, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored in the month of August. Although Bobby Miller has not been good in 2024, he is coming off a quality start against Tampa Bay last week and that should give him some confidence moving forward. Count on Miller getting enough run support from Ohtani and company for LA to take care of a Baltimore club that is a disappointing 5-7 in its last 12 outings.
