Here at Pickswise, we’ve started 8-2 (+8.4 units) in our NRFI/YRFI bets, including a 6-0 run in our last 6 bets. With more than a dozen MLB games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will only take 15 minutes.

There are 2 NRFI/YRFI bets I like on Sunday, so let’s get right into it.

Miami Marlins vs New York Mets: NRFI (-145)

One of the afternoon matchups on Sunday features one of the premier pitchers in all of baseball. Sandy Alcantara takes the mound for the Marlins as he looks to keep his Cy Young-caliber season going against the Mets. The Miami ace has been excellent in 2022, particularly in the opening frame. In fact, over his last 10 starts, Alcantara has allowed just 1 run in the first inning. There’s no reason to expect anything different, as Alcantara has been able to stymie plenty of good offenses this season. Even against an in-form Mets lineup, look for the right-hander to keep rolling.

While Alcantara should get off to a hot start, the Marlins offense shouldn’t give Taijuan Walker much trouble. Walker has quietly put together a solid campaign, posting a 2.86 ERA through 14 starts. Furthermore, the Mets starter has surrendered a first inning run in just 3 of his last 10 outings. The Marlins offense is nothing to write home about, and I expect Walker to retire the side without much trouble. Therefore, I like backing the NRFI in New York.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox: YRFI (+100)

When the Yankees and Red Sox meet in 2022, the games tend to produce fireworks. I expect nothing less from Sunday’s contest under the lights at Fenway Park. In the first 2 games of the series, the teams have combined for a total of 28 runs, and all signs point to that trend continuing. While the Red Sox have Nick Pivetta on the hill, he’ll have to face the best of the Yankees lineup, including Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. While Pivetta should turn in a solid outing overall, either one of the Yankees power hitters could easily take him deep or break through with an extra-base hit.

On the other side, the Red Sox offense is one of the best in the majors. Boston should see success against Jameson Taillon throughout the night, and I expect that to start in the opening frame. Rafael Devers might miss the game due to injury, but Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Trevor Story can be expected to pick up the slack. Taillon has allowed 15 runs in his last 16 innings pitched, and there’s a good chance Boston adds to that total. Therefore, I like backing the YRFI in this one.
